This year saw the beginning of what became known as World War I, after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austrian throne was Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, assassinated by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip. It also saw the first airline to provide scheduled regular commercial passenger services with heavier-than-air aircraft, with the St. Petersburg–Tampa Airboat Line. Lúðvík Jósepsson
Lúdvik Jósepsson ( Icelandic: Lúðvík Aðalsteinn Jósepsson) (16 June 1914 – 18 November 1994, born in Nes in Norðfjörður) Jósepsson was an Icelandic politician, he was a member of the People's Alliance (Iceland) and party chairman in 1977–1980. He was fisheries minister in 1956–1958 and 1971–1974, and was a key Icelandic player of the Cod Wars at the time, stating that "the basis for our independence is economic independence". Career Jósepsson completed a data engineering degree in Akureyri in 1933. He worked as a teacher at the secondary school in Neskaupstað 1934–1943. He worked in shipping 1944–1948, and then as CEO of the Bavarian Neskaupstadur shipping company until 1952. Jósepsson was a member of the People's Alliance and the party's chairman between 1977 and 1980, Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Commerce between 1956 and 1958 and 1971–1974 and a member of the United Nations General Assembly in 1969. Þorsteinn Erlingsson
Þorsteinn Erlingsson (1858–1914) was an Icelandic poet. He graduated from Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík in 1883 and went to Copenhagen to study law. He never finished law school but during his time in Copenhagen his poems became known in Iceland. He returned to his home country in 1895 and died of pneumonia in Reykjavík in 1914. Þorsteinn was an atheist and a socialist. While much of his poetry attacked the ruling classes and the church he also composed popular ditties and poems on nature reminiscent of romanticism. Sometimes, as in his poem ''Sólskríkjan'', the two themes are intertwined. Jón Bjarnason (minister)
Jón Bjarnason (15 November 1845 – 3 June 1914) was born in Thvottá, Iceland and became a Lutheran minister. Later, he and his family came to North America and settled in Manitoba. Bjarnason was a figure who is identified with the Icelandic immigration to North American areas and particularly to the province of Manitoba. He was associated with congregations in New Iceland and also in Winnipeg Winnipeg () is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba in Canada. It is centred on the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, near the longitudinal centre of North America. , Winnipeg had a city population of 749,6 .... Baldur Möller ( Reykjavík, 19 August 1914 – 23 November 1999) was an Icelandic chess master. He was multiple Icelandic champion (won in 1938, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1948, 1950, and retained his title in 1939). Möller won twice Nordic Chess Championship in 1948 and 1950.
