Franklin Távora
João Franklin da Silveira Távora (January 13, 1842 – August 18, 1888) was a Brazilian novelist, journalist, politician, lawyer and dramatist, famous for his Regionalist romance '' O Cabeleira'', set in 18th-century Pernambuco. He wrote under the pen names Semprônio and Farisvest. He is patron of the 14th chair of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. Life João Franklin da Silveira Távora was born in the city of Baturité, Ceará, to Camilo Henrique da Silveira Távora and Maria de Santana da Silveira. He made his primary studies in Fortaleza. He moved with his parents to Pernambuco in 1854, ingressing at Law course in Recife, graduating in 1863. In 1874, he moves to Rio de Janeiro, writing for journals ''A Consciência Livre'' and ''A Verdade''. Along with Nicolau Midosi, he founded the ''Revista Brasileira'', which lasted from 1879 to 1881. Robert Reid Kalley
Robert Reid Kalley September 1809 – 17 January 1888) was a Scottish physician and Presbyterian, later Congregationalist, missionary notable for his efforts to spread Presbyterian views in Portuguese-speaking territories and as the introducer of Protestantism in Portugal at a time when the only religion allowed to the Portuguese citizens was Roman Catholicism. Biography Kalley was born on 8 September 1809 at 13 Trongate in Glasgow, the son of Robert Kalley, a tea merchant. His father died when he was young. His mother remarried but then died herself, so he was raised by his stepfather. He attended Glasgow Grammar School. From 1823 he studied Arts at Glasgow University. From 1826 to 1829 he then studied Medicine, graduating MB ChB in Pharmacy and Surgery. He then worked as a ship's doctor in the Bombay area and as a General practitioner in the Kilmarnock area before gaining his doctorate (MD) in 1838. Don (honorific), Dom PedroII (2 December 1825 – 5 December 1891), nicknamed "the Magnanimity, Magnanimous" ( pt, O Magnânimo), was the List of monarchs of Brazil, second and last monarch of the Empire of Brazil, reigning for over 58 years. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, the seventh child of Emperor Dom Pedro I of Brazil and Empress Dona Maria Leopoldina and thus a member of the Brazilian branch of the House of Braganza. His father's Abdication of Pedro I of Brazil, abrupt abdication and departure to Europe in 1831 left the five-year-old as emperor and led to a grim and lonely childhood and adolescence, obliged to spend his time studying in preparation for rule.
