Arvid Horn
Count Arvid Bernhard Horn af Ekebyholm (6 April 166418 April 1742) was a Swedish general, diplomat and politician, a member of the noble Horn family. He served twice as President of the Privy Council Chancellery (1710–1719 and 1720–1738) and was one of the leading figures of the Swedish Age of Liberty. Soldier and diplomat Arvid Bernhard Horn was born at Vuorentaka Manor in Halikko (now Salo, Finland). He was the son of Gustaf Horn af Kanckas (1627–1673) and his wife Anna Helena von Gertten (1640–1709). After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Turku, he entered the Royal Swedish Army and served for several years in the Netherlands, in Hungary under Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736), and in Flanders under Prince Georg Friedrich of Waldeck (1690–1695). Rutger Macklean
Rutger Macklean (28 July 1742 – 14 January 1816) also Rutger Macklier II was a Swedish jurist, military officer, politician and land owner. He was a driving figure in the introduction of Swedish agricultural land reforms (''Enskiftet'') which made possible large-scale farming with its economy of scale. Biography Macklean was born on 28 July 1742 at Ström Manor, Hjärtum parish, Bohuslän to Baron Rutger Macklier (1688–1748) and Vilhelmina Eleonora Coyet (1719–1778). He became a student at Lund University in 1757 and graduated with a law degree in 1759. After completing his law degree, he served at the High Court in Jönköping. He became a sergeant in the Holstein regiment in 1763, in 1770 quartermaster and a cornet, and in 1771 a lieutenant in the Jämtland cavalry company and in 1776 the captain of the Kalmar regiment and a commander in the Uppvidinge company. Johannes Steuchius
Johannes Steuchius (3 January 1676 – 21 June 1742) was Archbishop of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden from 1730 to his death. Biography He was born in Härnösand, the son of Archbishop Mathias Steuchius (1644–1730) . His family surname was ennobled in 1719 to Steuch. He was enrolled at Uppsala University in 1692 and in 1695 at Lund University. Steuchius received a doctorate in philosophy at Uppsala in 1700 and in 1701, he took up a position as professor and librarian at Lund University. In 1707 he returned to Uppsala University where he was appointed professor of metaphysics and logic as well as extra ordinary professor of theology. Steuchius left academic life in 1723, when he was appointed superintendent of the Diocese of Karlstad In 1730, he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Linköping however following the subsequent the death of his father, he was appointed to succeed him as Archbishop of Uppsala. Lars Roberg
Lars Roberg (4 January 1664 – 21 May 1742) was a Sweden, Swedish physician and natural science researcher. He served as a professor of anatomy and medicine at Uppsala University. Biography Roberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of the royal apothecary Daniel Roberg. He matriculated at Uppsala University at a young age in 1675, and left for a long foreign journey in 1680 to Germany, France and England, during which he studied at the University of Wittenberg and University of Leiden. He completed his doctorate in medicine at Leiden in 1693. He became a professor of anatomy and practical medicine at Uppsala University in 1697 and retained the chair until 1740. Lars Roberg was the teacher of Carl Linnaeus and Peter Artedi. In 1708, he founded a clinic for the purpose of facilitating the practical education of medical students. Carl Wilhelm Scheele (, ; 9 December 1742 – 21 May 1786) was a Swedish German pharmaceutical chemist. Scheele discovered oxygen (although Joseph Priestley published his findings first), and identified molybdenum, tungsten, barium, hydrogen, and chlorine, among others. Christina Krook
Christina Krook (1742 – 1806) was a Finnish educator. She was the principal of a Finishing school for girls in Åbo, regarded as the most successful in Finland at the time. Life Christina Krook was the daughter of the official Gustav Krook (1704-1782), and Anna Christina Sund. She never married, and worked as a governess from 1765. In about 1782, she founded a boarding school in her home in Åbo. It was a typical school of its kind, with focus on accomplishments for girls expected to become wives and mothers and hostesses in high society.
