C-16 Highway (Spain)
C-16 or ''Eix del Llobregat'' is a primary highway in Catalonia, Spain. It is also part of the European route E9, from Orléans (France) to Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). According to the 2004 new codification for primary highways managed by the ''Generalitat de Catalunya'', the first number (C-16) indicates that is a south-northbound highway, whereas the second number (C-16) indicates that is the sixth westernmost. The road starts at Barcelona's Via Augusta and heads northbound crossing the ''Serra de Collserola'' mountain range, through the Vallvidrera tunnel, and then the ''comarques'' of Vallès Occidental, Bages and Berguedà. Most of the route follows the valley of the Llobregat river, hence the name ''Eix del Llobregat''. Finally it crosses another mountain range, the ''Serra del Cadí'', through the Cadí Tunnel, and enters the ''comarca'' of Cerdanya. Llobregat
The Llobregat () is the second longest river in Catalonia, Spain, after the Ter. It flows into the Mediterranean south of the city of Barcelona. Its name could have originated in an ancient Latin word meaning 'dark', 'sorrowful' or 'muddy', or from ''Rubricatus'', "red." Berga
Berga () is the capital of the ''comarca'' (county) of Berguedà, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is bordered by the municipalities of Cercs, Olvan, Avià, Capolat and Castellar del Riu. Manresa
Manresa () is the capital of the Comarca of Bages, located in the geographical centre of Catalonia, Spain, and crossed by the river Cardener. It is an industrial area with textile, metallurgical, and glass industries. The houses of Manresa are arranged around the basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu. Saint Ignatius of Loyola stopped to pray in the town on his way back from Montserrat in 1522. He also read in solitude in a cave near the town for a year, which contributed to the formulation of his Spiritual Exercises. As such, the town is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics. It is believed the comarcal name "Bages" comes from a corruption of the Latin "Bacchus" due to the extensive production of wine in the area. According to the 2004's new coding for primary highways managed by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the first number (C-17) indicates that is a south-northbound highway, whereas the second number (C-17) indicates that is the seventh westernmost. The highway starts at the city of Barcelona and heads mainly northbound towards the towns of Mollet del Vallès, Granollers, Vic and Ripoll. Serra Del Cadí
The Serra del Cadí is a mountain range in the north of Catalonia, Spain, part of the Pre-Pyrenees. Its highest peak is the Vulturó, with an altitude of . It stretches from east to west between Alt Urgell and Berguedà. The Llobregat River has its sources in Castellar de n'Hug at an altitude of 1,259 meters on the Serra del Cadí. Berguedà () is an inland comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain, lying partly in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and partly in the Catalan Central Depression.
