Michael Chadbourne Mills is an American film and music video director, writer and graphic designer. He is best known for his independent films, '' Beginners'' (2010), ''20th Century Women'' (2016), and '' C'mon, C'mon'' (2021). Mills received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay nomination for ''20th Century Women''. Early life and education Michael Chadbourne Mills was born in Berkeley, California, the son of Janet L. Dowd, a draftsperson, and Paul Chadbourne Mills, an art historian and museum director. Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and periods of abnormally elevated mood that last from days to weeks each. If the elevated mood is severe or associated with psychosis, it is called mania; if it is less severe, it is called hypomania. During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy or irritable, and they often make impulsive decisions with little regard for the consequences.
