Bøkfjord Lighthouse
Bøkfjord Lighthouse ( no, Bøkfjord fyr) is a coastal lighthouse located at the mouth of Bøkfjorden in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located about north of the town of Kirkenes in Sør-Varanger Municipality, about west of the border with Russia. History The lighthouse was established in 1910, and re-built in 1947–1948, having been destroyed during World War II. The lighthouse was listed as a protected site in 1998 and it was automated in 2006. The tall white, square, concrete tower has a red, metal, cylindrical light room on top. The light emits two white flashes every 15 seconds. The 513,000 candela light can be seen for up to . The light is emitted at an altitude of above sea level. The site is only accessible by boat, and is closed to the public. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast. "Enigheden" off Ålesund from 1856 vas replaced with Lepsøyrev Lighthouse in 1879, and "Ildjernsflu" moored off Nesodden from 1914 until it was scrapped in 1968. Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Luminous intensity is analogous to radiant intensity, but instead of simply adding up the contributions of every wavelength of light in the source's spectrum, the contribution of each wavelength is weighted by the standard luminosity function (a model of the sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths). Bøkfjorden ( sme, Báhčaveaivuotna) is a fjord in Sør-Varanger Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The long fjord is a southern branch off of the main Varangerfjorden. The river Pasvikelva empties into the Bøkfjorden at the village of Elvenes (which lies only about from the Norway–Russia border. At this place the Bøkfjord Bridge is located, which crosses the river/fjord where they meet. The town of Kirkenes lies on the shore of the fjord. The large island of Skogerøya lies on the western side of the fjord.
