Bénédicte Kurzen
Bénédicte Kurzen (born 1980), is a French photographer and photojournalist. She is based in Lagos, Nigeria. Biography Kurzen was born in Lyon. She graduated with a master's degree in contemporary history from Sorbonne University in Paris. She also studied semiology for one year. She devoted her thesis to the "war photographer's myth", a subject that inspired her to become herself a visual storyteller. Her work has been published in ''The New York Times,'' '' Paris Match,'' ''The New Yorker,'' ''Le Monde Magazine'' and ''Newsweek.'' Works In 2003, Kurzen moved to Israel, where she covered as a freelancer journalist the conflicts emanating from the Gaza Strip, Iraq and Lebanon. Lagos Photo Festival
LagosPhoto Festival is the first international art festival of photography in Nigeria, launched in October 2010. It is organised by the African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) as part of an ongoing project designed to use art in public spaces, as a medium for increasing societal awareness. The festival includes workshops and classes for professional artists, art fairs and indoor and outdoor exhibitions citywide. Cristina de Middel (born 1975) is a Spanish documentary photographer and artist living and working in Uruapan, Mexico. De Middel self-published ''The Afronauts'' in 2012, a photobook about the short-lived Zambian space program in Southern Africa. The book quickly sold out and the work was met with critical acclaim. She was nominated for the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize for ''The Afronauts''. In 2013, de Middel received the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography. Tutsi
The Tutsi (), or Abatutsi (), are an ethnic group of the African Great Lakes region. They are a Bantu-speaking ethnic group and the second largest of three main ethnic groups in Rwanda and Burundi (the other two being the largest Bantu ethnic group Hutu and the Pygmy group of the Twa). Historically, the Tutsi were pastoralists and filled the ranks of the warriors' caste. Before 1962, they regulated and controlled Rwandan society, which was composed of Tutsi aristocracy and Hutu commoners, utilizing a clientship structure.
