Byron J Scullin
Byron J Scullin is an Australian composer and sound designer. His sound design work has appeared in performances and exhibitions at National Gallery of Victoria, Rising Festival, and Dark Mofo. His 2015 Dark Mofo art piece ''Bass Bath'' was a collaboration with the company Supple Fox, made up of Hannah Fox and Tom Supple. The work featured eight "2100 horsepower monolithic subwoofers" in the space which audience members could move around to change their experience, with the low tones causing a physical sensation across their body. In 2017 he returned to Dark Mofo with Supple Fox. Their art piece ''Siren Songs'' included 450 speakers and a helicopter broadcasting sound around the city as part of the performance which ''The Guardian'' called "eerie, dark and beautiful." The work later toured the Perth Festival where it was reworked for the new setting. National Gallery Of Victoria
The National Gallery of Victoria, popularly known as the NGV, is an art museum in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1861, it is Australia's oldest and most visited art museum. François "Franc" Tétaz (born 22 December 1970) is an Australian film composer, music producer and mixer, who won the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) / Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) 2006 'Feature Film Score of the Year' Award for '' Wolf Creek'' (2005). As a producer he has worked with Gotye, Kimbra, Architecture in Helsinki, Sally Seltmann, Lior and Bertie Blackman. He won an ARIA for his work on Gotye's ''Making Mirrors'' album in 2011. Robin Fox (Australian Musician)
Robin Fox is an Australian musician. He has released several solo albums as well as collaborations with Anthony Pateras and Oren Ambarchi. His work with Anthony Pateras has been noted for making a significant contribution to noise music. His mother was an experimental music composer and his stepfather ran the computer music department at La Trobe University. After dropping out of law school, Robin decided to focus on music inspired by his mother's work. He later returned to studying and has a PhD in composition from Monash University and an MA in musicology, with published articles on experimental music and composition. He has collaborated with his partner choreographer Stephanie Lake on several dance works, and has created sound and light-shows for Australian contemporary dance company Chunky Move. Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio
The Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) is an Australian independent non-profit arts organization founded by sound artists Robin Fox (Australian musician), Robin Fox and Byron J Scullin in 2016. MESS features a collection of synthesizers, drum machines, and other electronic instruments which are available to use. The instruments in their collection are on loan from local musicians, including major contributions from Tony Osmond and Gotye, Goyte. Due to the size of the collection, only a third can be displayed at one time, so are rotated regularly. Access to MESS is provided through an annual membership, allowing members to book out instruments and play them or record with them in the space. Midnight Juggernauts
Midnight Juggernauts were an Australian band from Melbourne, composed of Andrew Szekeres, Vincent Vendetta (Vincent Heimann), and Daniel Stricker. The band has been described as anything from 'prog dance meets cosmic film scores', to 'slasher-flick disco' to 'deadpan landscape'. Following the release of numerous 7" and 12" singles, and limited edition EPs, the band released their debut album, ''Dystopia''. After playing festivals and headlining tours worldwide during late 2007–2008, the band finished working on their follow up album ''The Crystal Axis'', touring around its release mid-2010 at festivals and headline shows around the globe. Philip Brophy
Philip Brophy, born in Reservoir, Melbourne 1959 is an Australian musician, composer, sound designer, filmmaker, writer, graphic designer, educator and academic. Music In 1977, Brophy formed the experimental group → ↑ → more often written (though wrongly) as Tsk Tsk Tsk or Tch Tch Tch, (pronounced tsk tsk tsk) with Ralph Traviato, Alan Gaunt and Leigh Parkhill. Sometimes compared to Andy Warhol's Factory, the group produced experimental music (Brophy on drums or synthesiser), films, videos, and live theatrical performances exploring Brophy's aesthetic and cultural interests, often on a minimal budget. Darrin Verhagen is an Australian-born composer of dark ambient and gothic music. He has adopted several different monikers for his recorded output, depending on the genre including Shinjuku Thief, Shinjuku Filth and Professor Richmann. . David Thrussell
David Thrussell is an Australian musician and a prolific composer of a wide range of genres. He is a founding member of the dark ambient and IDM outfits Snog and Soma as well as his work under the moniker Black Lung. Black Lung In 1994 Thrussell released ''Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars'', an album of B-sides from Snog's lengthy Australian CD singles for the German market - the Australian singles were up to 80 minutes, whereas chart-eligible singles in Germany could not be more than 21 minutes, so many tracks were left over. Rising, stylised as RISING, is a city-wide arts festival held in Melbourne, Australia. It is supported by the Victoria State Government. History Rising was announced in May 2020 as Melbourne’s new major arts and culture festival, taking the place of the Melbourne International Arts Festival and White Night. RISING is led by co-artistic directors Hannah Fox and Gideon Obarzanek.
