Bynumville is an unincorporated community in eastern Chariton County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately north of Salisbury on Route 129. Bynumville was named for Dr. Joseph Bynum, an early settler. A post office called Bynumville was established in 1854, and remained in operation until 1967. Chariton County, Missouri
Chariton County is a county located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,408. Its county seat is Keytesville. The county was organized November 16, 1820, from part of Howard County and is named for the Chariton River. History Chariton County was settled primarily from the states of the Upper South, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. They brought slaves and slaveholding traditions with them, and they quickly started cultivating crops similar to those in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky: hemp and tobacco. Chariton was one of several counties settled mostly by southerners to the north and south of the Missouri River. Salisbury, Missouri
Salisbury is a city in Chariton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,563 at the 2020 census. History The land where Salisbury is now located was first owned by Prior Bibo, a veteran of the War of 1812, in the late 1820s. A tract of 320 acres was granted to Bibo by the U.S. government as a bonus for his military service. Following two intermediate owners, the land was sold for $400 to Judge Lucius Salisbury in 1856. He had surveyors lay out the town plat in 1857, and the town was founded on April 1, 1867. The city has had a post office since 1863, when Judge Salisbury opened it in his home.
