By Right Of Birth
The film ''By Right of Birth'' premiered on June 22, 1921, in Los Angeles, California. This film is one of the few surviving films of the Lincoln Motion Picture Company, which is known as the first producer of race films and of such silent films as ''By Right of Birth''. The company was founded in 1916 and in 1923 produced its last movie, ''The Heart of a Negro.'' Background The film was directed by Harry Gant, who is also responsible for the films ''The Realization of a Negro's Ambition'' (1916) and ''Absent'' (1928). The story was by George Perry Johnson, both a writer and a member of the Lincoln Motion Picture Company executive board. Currently, only small pieces of this film still exist. After almost 100 years since the creation of its 6 reels totaling 6,000 feet of film, only one four-minute clip of consecutive scenes from it is known. Harry Gant (director)
Harry Arthur Gant (February 11, 1881 - July 26, 1967) was a cinematographer and film director whose work includes African American films. He directed for the Lincoln Motion Picture Company. He was the only white person at the film company. He joined the African American film company after meeting Noble Johnson on a Universal Pictures set. Gant worked at the film company while also continuing to work for a major studio. He was also a stockholder in the fledgling film company. UCLA has a photograph of Gant and Johnson. The National Film Registry (NFR) is the United States National Film Preservation Board's (NFPB) collection of films selected for preservation, each selected for its historical, cultural and aesthetic contributions since the NFPB’s inception in 1988. A happy ending is an ending of the plot of a work of fiction in which almost everything turns out for the best for the main protagonists and their sidekicks, while the main villains/antagonists are dead/defeated. In storylines where the protagonists are in physical danger, a happy ending mainly consists of their survival and successful completion of the quest or mission; where there is no physical danger, a happy ending may be lovers consummating their love despite various factors which might have thwarted it. During the American colonial period, a freeman was a person who was not a slave. The term originated in 12th-century Europe. In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, a man had to be a member of the Church to be a freeman; in neighboring Plymouth Colony a man did not need to be a member of the Church, but he had to be elected to this privilege by the General Court.
