Buttrills
Buttrills is a northwestern-central district of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, in south Wales. It is also an electoral ward of the Vale of Glamorgan, the population of which taken at the 2011 census was 6,357. The centre of education in Barry in the early twentieth century, Buttrills today contains notable playing fields (known as The Butts) and Barry Cemetery. History The origin of the word Buttrills is uncertain. 'Butt' is a word for an archery shooting range, and popular legend has it that the large playing field known as 'the Butt's, adjoining Barry Cemetery, was used as a practice range by archers in the Middle Ages. Welsh longbowmen were renown for their skill, and played a key role in defeating the French at Agincourt in 1415. 2017 Vale Of Glamorgan Council Election
The 2017 Vale of Glamorgan Council election took place on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect members of Vale of Glamorgan Council in Wales. There were 47 council seats available, across 23 wards. This was the same day as other United Kingdom local elections. The previous full council election took place on 3 May 2012, with the next full council election due to take place on 5 May 2022. Election result In winning 23 seats the Conservatives had a surprising resurgence, taking back the council from the previous coalition of Labour councillors and Llantwit First Independents. The Conservatives were one seat short of an overall majority. Labour-held wards such as Barry's Dyfan and Illtyd were taken by the Tories, as was the previous Plaid Cymru stronghold of Dinas Powys. Barry ( cy, Y Barri; ) is a town in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, on the north coast of the Bristol Channel approximately south-southwest of Cardiff. Barry is a seaside resort, with attractions including several beaches and the resurrected Barry Island Pleasure Park. According to Office for National Statistics 2016 estimate data, the population of Barry was 54,673. Once a small village, Barry has absorbed its larger neighbouring villages of Cadoxton and Barry Island, and now, Sully. The Vale of Glamorgan Council is the governing body for the Vale of Glamorgan, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. It was run by the Conservative Party after the 2008 United Kingdom local elections, taking over the council from no overall control. Barry Town Council is an elected town council serving Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, one of the largest towns in Wales. Functions The town council describes itself as the only elected body dedicated solely to the interests of Barry residents. Colcot is a northern district of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, in the Dyfan ward of South Wales. Dyfan ward is situated in the north west of Barry and its most northern edge is on the green belt of the town. Port Road West runs through the ward and is the main route to Cardiff and Cardiff International Airport in Rhoose. Cwm Talwg
Cwm Talwg is a north-western district and large housing estate complex within the town of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan ten miles outside Cardiff in south Wales. It is on the outskirts of the main town and links to Pontypridd Road and the A4050 road out of Barry. Prior to the housing development of Cwm Talwg, it was a pig farm; cows, pigs and sheep roamed freely. in 1978 the EC announced the "construction of 104 houses, 20 flats, 31 flats in sheltered accommodation with warden's bungalow and associated site works." Barry Comprehensive School ( cy, Ysgol Gyfun y Barri) was a secondary school for boys aged 11–16, situated opposite Highlight Park in the town of Barry, in Wales. Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School was the partner girls' school that also provides a mixed sixth form for both schools. A new co-educational school reopened on the same site called Whitmore High School. History Barry Boys’ Comprehensive School was formed by the merger of Barry Boys' Grammar School and the three Boys' Secondary Modern Schools (Cadoxton, Gladstone and Romilly) in September 1966 with the introduction of comprehensive schools for boys.
