Burnt River, Ontario
Burnt River is a hamlet located in the middle of the former Township of Somerville, in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. The community is on the Burnt River. History Originally settled in the 1830s, the first name of the community was "Rettie's Crossing," after local settler Alexander Rettie. Another town further upstream was called "Rettie's Bridge." Mixed-up mail shipments continued until some time in the 1920s, when an unfortunate accident occurred. At the time, there was a Shell gas station located in the centre of the village, across the road from the current post office. A gentleman arriving in his Model T Ford smashed into the gravity-fed gas pumps and severed the lines connected to the above-ground gasoline storage tank. City Of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario
The City of Kawartha Lakes (2021 population 79,247) is a unitary municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It is a municipality legally structured as a single-tier city; however, Kawartha Lakes is the size of a typical Ontario county and is mostly rural. It is the second largest single-tier municipality in Ontario by land area (after Greater Sudbury). The main population centres are the communities of Lindsay (population: 22,367), Bobcaygeon (population: 3,576), Fenelon Falls (population: 2,490), Omemee (population: 1,060) and Woodville (population: 718). Cameron Lake (Ontario)
Cameron Lake, Ontario is one of the Kawartha Lakes and is a lake bordering the town of Fenelon Falls and is part of the Trent–Severn Waterway. The lake is some long by wide and is quite deep, reaching in places. The lake lies between locks 34 & 35 on the Trent–Severn Waterway. Much of the side of the lake is taken up with housing and is a popular place to live. The town of Fenelon Falls is found between Sturgeon Lake and Cameron Lake. The lake is popular with boaters and fisherman. Fish found in the lake include: * smallmouth bass, *largemouth bass, *walleye (pickerel) and *muskie (occasionally tiger muskellunge). In the lake are found the Lakers Islands (a.k.a. Boyd and Rathbun islands). The Burnt River and Rosedale River are tributaries of the lake. Roch Thériault
Roch Thériault (; May 16, 1947 – February 26, 2011) was a Canadian cult leader and convicted murderer. Thériault, a self-proclaimed prophet under the name Moïse , founded the Ant Hill Kids in 1977. They were a doomsday cult whose beliefs were based on Seventh-day Adventist Church beliefs. In 1978, Thériault was removed from Seventh-day Adventist Church. Thériault maintained multiple wives and concubines, impregnating all female members as a religious requirement, and fathering 26 children. Kinmount, Ontario
Kinmount is a village with a population of approximately 500, located on the Burnt River in Ontario, Canada. The village is apportioned by three municipalities, they are, City of Kawartha Lakes, Minden Hills and Trent Lakes. The village's hinterland covers large sections of both Haliburton and Peterborough counties for which it is a shopping and cultural centre.
