Burleigh Falls
Burleigh Falls is both a geological feature and a small community in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada. The falls form the boundary between the municipality of North Kawartha to the north and the municipality of Selwyn to the south. The falls (more accurately described as a chute or cascade, since the drop in water level is more horizontal than vertical) are created by a narrowing in the flow of water between Lovesick Lake and Lower Buckhorn Lake on the west and Stoney Lake to the east. Mississaugas
The Mississauga are a subtribe of the Anishinaabe-speaking First Nations peoples located in southern Ontario, Canada. They are closely related to the Ojibwe. The name "Mississauga" comes from the Anishinaabe word ''Misi-zaagiing'', meaning "hose at theGreat River-mouth." It is closely related to the Ojibwe word ''Misswezahging'', which means ‘a river with many outlets.’ History According to the oral histories of the Anishinaabe, after departing the "Second Stopping Place" near Niagara Falls, the core Anishinaabe peoples migrated along the shores of Lake Erie to what is now southern Michigan. They became "lost" both physically and spiritually. The Mississauga migrated along a northern route by the Credit River, to Georgian Bay. A truss is an assembly of ''members'' such as beams, connected by ''nodes'', that creates a rigid structure. Ontario Highway 28
King's Highway 28, commonly referred to as Highway 28, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The southwest–northeast route extends from Highway 7 east of Peterborough, to Highway 41 in Denbigh. The route passes over undulating hills before entering the Canadian Shield near Burleigh Falls, and gradually turns eastward. Highway 28 was assigned in 1928, incorporating Highway 12A, one of the original provincial highways. It was extended in the following decade, first to Apsley and then to a new Department of Roads and Northern Development centre in Bancroft. In the early 1980s, Highway 500 was added as an extension, reaching Denbigh. Portions of the highway were decommissioned or transferred in the 1990s, and in 2003 Highway 134 was added, extending the southern terminus to Highway 7. Stoney Lake
Stony Lake (also called Stoney Lake) is a lake in Peterborough County in central Ontario, Canada. There are three interconnected lakes (Upper Stony Lake to the northeast, Stony Lake in the centre, and Clear Lake to the southwest) which together are known as Stony or Stoney Lake. Stoney Lake forms the eastern end of the Kawartha Lakes region. It is primarily a summer cottage area but there are many permanent residences on the lakes. Name Stoney Lake was known to early European settlers as Salmon Trout Lake, but the modern name is fully appropriate. The lake actually consists of Stony Lake for the western and southern arms, the east arm is Stoney Lake. Salmon trout are no longer evident, but islands and shoals are everywhere. Lower Buckhorn Lake
Lower Buckhorn Lake is a lake located within the townships of Selwyn and Trent Lakes in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada and is one of the Kawartha Lakes. Numerous small islands are located within the lake while the southern area is dominated by a large bay known as Deer Bay. A waterfall is a point in a river or stream where water flows over a vertical drop or a series of steep drops.
