Buning Brongers Award
The Buning Brongers Award is a biennial Dutch art prize for young artists.Sandra Jaszczak (1996). ''Awards, Honors & Prizes: International and Foreign 1996-97,'' p. 459. This award is the biggest private art prize of the Netherlands. The prize consists of the sum of €4500. For the winners, there is an exhibition organized, an award ceremony at Arti et Amicitiae, and a catalog published. Candidates for the prize are nominated by the Dutch art schools. The Buning Brongers Prizes are awarded by the Buning Brongers Foundation from the legacy of Johan Buning, his wife Titia Brongers, and his sister-in-law Jeanette Brongers. The prize was first awarded in 1966 and has been awarded every one or two years since then. Arti Et Amicitiae
Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. In recent times it has been one of the venues for the 17th edition of the Sonic Acts Festival. Arti et Amicitiae is also the name of the building. The complex was merged from two separate buildings and given a white neo-classical facade by J. H. Leliman in 1855. History and Structure In 1794 the last Dutch city painter's guild was dissolved during the French occupation by Napoleonic rule. Toon Verhoef
Anthonie Wilhelmus (Toon) Verhoef (born Voorburg, October 17, 1946) is a Dutch painter, ceramist and art lecturer. Biography Verhoef attended the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 1965-1966, and studied art history at the University of South Africa in Johannesburg from 1966 to 1968. Subsequently, he received further art education at the Ateliers '63 in Haarlem from 1968 to 1970. Verhoef settled as independent artist and over the years worked in Eindhoven, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Wales, Amsterdam, Johannesburg (South-Africa), Haarlem, Edam, New York City, and Hanover (New Hampshire). In 1975 he was appointed art lecturer at the De Ateliers in Amsterdam, where he lecturer until 2003. From 1981 to 1984 he also lectured at the Academie Minerva in Groningen; at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg (ABV) in 1983-1984; at the Villa Arson in Nice in 1983-1984, and at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe from 2009 to 2014. Peter Klashorst
Peter Klashorst (born Peter van de Klashorst; born 11 February 1957) is a Dutch painter, sculptor, and photographer. Biography Klashorst was always based in the Tabakspanden on the Spuistraat in Amsterdam. But he's also produced works in cities such as Bangkok, Mombasa and Phnom Penh. In 2011 he did one of his last self organised shows at the Tuol Sleng, S21 the former Khmer Rouge prison (Cambodia). In honour of the victims of the Khmer Rouge’s terror and genocide that took place from 1975 to 1979 in Cambodia, Peter Klashorst created an impressive and sometimes very confronting set of around 50 paintings. Gerard Prent
Gerard Prent (born 25 December 1954 in Amsterdam) is a contemporary Dutch painter. Life and work Gerard Prent had his art education in Amsterdam at the Rietveld Academy (1973–1978) and the Rijksakademie (1978–1980). His first canvases utilized large, lively colored fields, often set in divergent frames. From the very beginning of his career, he has shown a preference for large, square formats for his paintings. He was commissioned to create murals in the newly constructed government buildings in the Netherlands, such as the customs office in Vlissingen, the correctional facilities of Zwolle and Heerhugowaard, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.
