Bundesautobahn 831
is an autobahn in Germany. The A 831 is one of the shortest autobahns in Germany, measuring 2.3 km and containing two junctions. Originally, the A 831 continued another 15 km to Gärtringen, where an intersection with a planned section of the A 81 would have been located. The A 81 north of Gärtringen was eventually cancelled, leaving a half-finished interchange that is one of the few in Germany that requires traffic to leave from the passing lane. As a result, for consistency, the A 81 took over the A 831's routing up to the ''Kreuz Stuttgart'' interchange with the A 8, where it heads west (concurrent with the A 8) to rejoin the original route. The 2.3 km of autobahn that remained was initially not signed as the A 831. Bundesautobahn 81
is a motorway in Germany. It branches off the A 3 at the Würzburg-West triangle and ends near the border with Switzerland. The oldest part of the A 81 between the Weinsberg intersection ( A 6) near Heilbronn and Dreieck Leonberg ( A 8) near Stuttgart was finished in the years 1938 to 1940. This section included the first tunnel built for an autobahn, the first Engelberg tunnel near Leonberg. When Weinsberg-Leonberg was upgraded to 3+3 lanes in the 1970s, the tunnel with its two lanes each and steep grades (up to 6%) became something of a bottleneck. In 1999 a new Engelberg tunnel was opened. is an autobahn in southern Germany that runs 497 km (309 mi) from the Luxembourg A13 motorway at Schengen via Neunkirchen, Pirmasens, Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich to the Austrian West Autobahn near Salzburg. The A8 is a significant east–west transit route. Its construction began in March 1934 during Nazi rule as a ''Reichsautobahn'', the section between Karlsruhe and Salzburg having been completed by the time road works were discontinued in World War II. A cloverleaf interchange is a two-level interchange in which all turns are handled by slip roads.
