Transwa Australind
The ''Australind'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa on the South Western Railway between Perth and Bunbury. History The ''Australind'' service began on 24 November 1947 and was hauled initially by U class steam locomotives. With an average speed of , it was the fastest narrow gauge passenger train in Australia. It was named to commemorate the city of that name envisioned by Marshall Waller Clifton on Leschenault Inlet 100 years previously. The current hamlet of Australind, a satellite town of Bunbury, has never had a passenger rail service, nor even a railway line. In February 1958, X class diesel locomotives took over. The service was relaunched on 1 October 1960 with onboard catering removing the need for an elongated stop at Pinjarra. Bunbury is a coastal city in the Australian state of Western Australia, approximately south of the state capital, Perth. It is the state's third most populous city after Perth and Mandurah, with a population of approximately 75,000. The Old Bunbury railway station was the main railway station for Bunbury from 1894 until 1996. It was the terminus for the ''Australind'' passenger railway service from Perth. It was replaced in May 1985 by the current Bunbury Terminal in East Bunbury. History The original structure was constructed in the 1880s; the railway was not connected to Perth at that stage. Mandurah Station is the terminus of the Mandurah railway line and a bus station on the Transperth network, serving the satellite city of Mandurah, Western Australia. History The bus station opened prior to the railway station, on 17 September 2003, replacing a temporary bus terminus located nearby in the carpark of Rushton Park. The railway station later opened on the same site as the bus station, on 23 December 2007 by Premier Alan Carpenter alongside the rest of the Mandurah railway line. The car park was also significantly expanded for the opening of the railway station. In 2020, construction started on a $32 million multi-storey car park for Mandurah station as part of Metronet. East Perth railway station is located on the Midland line and Airport line in Perth, Western Australia. It is operated by Transperth serving the suburb of East Perth. It is adjacent to the East Perth Terminal and Public Transport Centre.
