Bulleen Boomers
The Melbourne Boomers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The Boomers compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play the majority of their home games at Melbourne Sports Centre – Parkville and the State Basketball Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Deakin Melbourne Boomers. Entering the WNBL in 1984, the club is both the oldest WNBL club and the longest-running elite-level women's sports team in Australia (in any sport). History The club was established in 1969 and, after missing out in 1983, was accepted into the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in 1984 under the name of Bulleen Boomers, named after the suburb of the same name. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Allison Petra Cook-Tranquilli (born 12 August 1972 in Melbourne, Victoria) is a retired female basketball player from Australia, who played for the Melbourne Tigers and PVSK Pecs in Hungary. A two-time Olympian she was a member of the national women's team that claimed the bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Cheryl Chambers
Cheryl Chambers (born 18 April 1968) is an Australian basketball coach and retired professional basketball player. She currently is head coach for the Southside Flyers in the WNBL. Career WNBL Chambers played 261 games in the Women's National Basketball League (playing for the Melbourne East, Coburg, Bulleen Boomers and Melbourne Tigers) and is a Life Member of the WNBL. After her playing career, Chambers went on to coach the Bulleen Boomers from 2001 through to 2009. In her time there, she won the WNBL Coach of the Year Award twice in 2004–05 and 2008–09 respectively. Kristi Harrower
Kristi Harrower (born 4 March 1975) is an Australian professional basketball player, who three times (2000, 2004 and 2008) won the silver medal with the Australian Women's Team at the Summer Olympics, and also the bronze in 2012. She played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1998 to 2005 for the Phoenix Mercury and Minnesota Lynx. Larissa Anderson (née ''Cavanagh''; born 27 March 1977) is a former Australian professional basketball player. She currently is an assistant coach for the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL. Career WNBL Anderson grew up in Victoria and played for the Nunawading Spectres before joining the Dandenong Rangers WNBL team in 1995. Anderson had a strong career through until 2008 playing for Brisbane, Bulleen & again Dandenong. After seven years away from the WNBL and coaching success in the SEABL, Anderson has returned to the WNBL and to Dandenong as the head coach of the team for the 2015–16 season. Guy Molloy
Guy Molloy (born 4 November 1965) is an Australian basketball coach, who is currently the head coach of the Southland Sharks in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). Coaching career WNBL Molloy began his coaching career as head coach of the Canberra Capitals for the 1989 WNBL season. Between 1993 to 1996 he served as head coach of the Perth Breakers. The Breakers reached the finals in all four of Molloy's seasons, including reaching the 1993 Grand Final. In 1995, Molloy was named the WNBL Coach of the Year. In 2013, Molloy returned to the WNBL, as head coach of the newly branded Melbourne Boomers. Jenna O'Hea (born 6 June 1987) is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Southside Flyers in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). O'Hea is also currently the captain of Australia's national team, the Opals. O'Hea was the captain of the Australian Women's basketball team (Opals) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Elizabeth Folake Cambage (born 18 August 1991) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Sharin Milner
Sharin Milner (born 27 July 1980 in Melbourne) is an Australian professional basketball player who most recently played for the Bulleen Boomers in the Women's National Basketball League. Milner is tall and plays as a guard. She was recruited from the Hume City Broncos and played with Troy University in the United States in 1999 before making her début with the Boomers in the 2000/01 season.
