Bulkley Valley-Stikine was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada from 1991 to 2009. It was succeeded by the electoral district of Stikine. Stikine (provincial Electoral District)
Stikine is a provincial electoral district in British Columbia, Canada established by the ''Electoral Districts Act, 2008''. It came into effect upon the dissolution of the BC Legislature in April 2009, and was first contested in the 2009 provincial election, and most recently in the 2020 provincial election. Geography As of the 2020 provincial election, Stikine comprises the entire Stikine Region, the northern portion of the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and a small area of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako containing the communities of Smithers and Telkwa. Frank Arthur Calder
Frank Arthur Calder, (August 3, 1915 – November 4, 2006) was a Nisga'a politician in Canada. Born in Nass Harbour, British Columbia, Calder was the first indigenous person to graduate from the Anglican Theological College of the University of British Columbia. Mr. Calder was an hereditary chief of the House of Wisinxbiltkw from the Killerwhale Tribe. He died November 4, 2006 at an assisted-living home in Victoria from the effects of cancer and recent abdominal surgery. Political career In the 1949 British Columbia election, Calder was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. He was elected in the riding of Atlin where he continued to serve until 1979. Calder represented BC's Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (which later became the New Democratic Party of British Columbia). Al Passarell
Alan Lawrence Passarell (April 22, 1950 – September 29, 1986) was a Canadian politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia representing the riding of Atlin from 1979 to 1986. He was in the New Democratic Party until October 1985, when he switched to the British Columbia Social Credit Party. Passarell lived in a log cabin without a telephone. Before becoming a politician, he was a school principal. In 1979, he won his seat by one vote, and was subsequently known as "Landslide Al". As a MLA, he was known for advocating positions for Northern British Columbia. He garnered headlines for his tall tale about fighting a grizzly bear. Larry Guno
Larry Edward Guno (February 28, 1940 – July 17, 2005) was a lawyer, playwright and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Atlin in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1986 to 1991 as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Aiyansh, British Columbia in 1940, the son of Augustus Guno and a member of the Nisga'a nation. Guno was educated at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. In 2000, he was an unsuccessful candidate in the federal riding of Skeena. He wrote the play ''Bunk #7'' based on his experiences at a residential school.
