Bula (horse)
Bula (1965–1977) was a British National Hunt horse who won two Champion Hurdles and many other top races over hurdles and later over fences. He ran during what is considered a ‘golden period’ for two mile hurdlers in the 1970s, which featured such champions as Persian War, Comedy Of Errors, Night Nurse, Monksfield and Sea Pigeon. Bula was “a remarkably consistent, versatile and durable jumper” and was known for his come-from-behind style. Background Bula was a brown gelding sired by Raincheck, who had run unplaced in the 1951 Derby and was a son of Prix du Jockey Club winner Tourbillion. Bula’s dam Pongo’s Fancy was a winner over hurdles and the great granddaughter of Triple Crown winner Gainsborough. Bula was bought by Captain Bill Edwards-Heathcote in Dublin in 1968 for 1,350 guineas, and subsequently put into training with Fred Winter in the summer of 1969. Bula, Camarines Sur
Bula, officially the Municipality of Bula (Rinconada Bikol: ''Banwaān ka Bula''; Tagalog: ''Bayan ng Bula''), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Camarines Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 73,143 people. History The town of Bula is historically considered as one of the first four mission towns of Camarines Sur founded by the Spanish conquistadores when they set foot on the Bicol soil coming from the Visayas in 1576. The other premier towns were Naga, Quipayo and Nabua. The Spaniards who first came to this place asked the men who were splitting bamboos about the name of the place, and since they did not understand the language, they thought that they were being asked about the name of the bamboo, and so they got the answer "Bu-la". And so Bula became the name of the town. However, it was only in 1578 when the natives where Christianized, so the National Historical Commission dates back the town's history to 1578. Bula ( ) is an unincorporated community in Bailey County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 35 in 2000. History The community of Bula was established in 1924 and was originally given the name Newsome for W.B. Newsome. He and his brother, Tom, sold their ranch and divided it into of farms in 1924-25. Due to a conflict with another Texas post office with the same name, the name was changed to Bula in 1925. It was given this name in honor of either Bula Maude Oakes, who was a daughter of Methodist preacher Roma A. Oakes, or Bula Thorn, who was the wife of the community's first postmaster, William H. Thorn. Bula had a cotton gin in 1929 but never grew significantly. By 1980, the population had risen to only 105, then dropped to 35 in 2000. Bula is a Brazilian alternative rock band from Santos, São Paulo, originally composed by former members of the bands Charlie Brown Jr. and A Banca. History The band was conceived in mid-2014 by the remaining members of A Banca (with the exception of Thiago Castanho), formed in April of the previous year by former members of Charlie Brown Jr. after the death of its vocalist Chorão; however, A Banca only lasted for five months due to the suicide of its frontman, Champignon. Guitarist/lead vocalist Marcão, bassist Helena "Lena" Papini and drummer Bruno Graveto teamed up to continue making music, dubbing their new group "Bula" in reference both to the papal bull and the seal used to authenticate it, the ''Bulla (seal), bulla''; as Marcão explained, all of the bandmembers "have their fates sealed together as in a pact". Bulă () is a fictional stock character of Romanian humor. Bulă, a buffoon and coward, was "born" during the Nicolae Ceauşescu regime of Communist Romania. The name, among other meanings, is a one-letter deformation of "Pulă", a Romanian vulgar slang for "penis". The Swiss Guide and Scout Movement (SGSM) (''German: Pfadibewegung Schweiz (PBS), French: Mouvement Scout de Suisse (MSdS), Italian: Movimento Scout Svizzero (MSS), Rumantsch: Moviment Battasendas Svizra (MBS)'') is the national Scouting and Guiding association of Switzerland formed in 1987. Scouting was founded in Switzerland in 1912 and was among the charter members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922 and among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1928.
