Bukedde
''Bukedde'', is a daily Ugandan newspaper published in Kampala, Uganda. It is the leading daily newspaper in the country for both English and Luganda papers with an estimated daily circulation of about 33,290 copies daily. Overview The newspaper is published by the Vision Group, which publishes the New Vision, Uganda's leading English daily newspaper. The publisher also circulates other dailies and weeklies in Ugandan languages, including: (a) ''Orumuri'' in Runyakitara (b) ''Etop'' in Ateso and ''Rupiny'' in Lwo. Bukedde is available in print form and on the Internet. History The newspaper was founded in 1994. It is the only newspaper in Uganda that publishes a dedicated section about the Kabaka of Buganda. The name ''Bukedde'', translates loosely into English as ''Morning Has Come''. The Vision Group of Companies, commonly known as the Vision Group, is a multimedia conglomerate in Uganda. It publishes the New Vision (newspaper), an English-language daily newspaper, that appears in print form and online, as well as newspapers and magazines in a variety of Ugandan languages. History The group was established in 1986, with the flagship publication, the New Vision Newspaper. The company's first managing director was William Pike, who started the year the group launched. In 2007, a board member of the New Vision Group was allegedly poisoned. In 2009, the group apologized for publishing a corruption story on Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda. Luganda
The Ganda language or Luganda (, , ) is a Bantu language spoken in the African Great Lakes region. It is one of the major languages in Uganda and is spoken by more than 10 million Baganda and other people principally in central Uganda including the capital Kampala of Uganda. Typologically, it is an agglutinative, tonal language with subject–verb–object word order and nominative–accusative morphosyntactic alignment. Kampala (, ) is the capital and largest city of Uganda. The city proper has a population of 1,680,000 and is divided into the five political divisions of Kampala Central Division, Kawempe Division, Makindye Division, Nakawa Division, and Rubaga Division. English Language
English is a West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, with its earliest forms spoken by the inhabitants of early medieval England. Runyakitara
Runyakitara is a standardized language based on four closely related languages of western Uganda: * Nyoro or ''Runyoro'' * Kiga (Chiga) or ''Rukiga'' * Nkore or ''Runyankole'' * Tooro or ''Rutooro'' Jouni Filip Maho's 2009 New Updated Guthrie List Online calls it an artificial language, while Ethnologue 23 calls it "standardized" and "hybrid". Ateso
Teso (natively ''Ateso'') is an Eastern Nilotic language spoken by the Iteso people of Uganda and Kenya and some speakers are in South Sudan. It is part of the Teso–Turkana language cluster. According to the 2002 Uganda population and housing census, over 1.57 million people in Uganda (6.7 percent of the total Uganda population) spoke Ateso. Also, an estimated 279,000 people in Kenya speak the language. Its SIL code is TEO. Ateso is spoken in the Teso sub-region. Ateso is also known as Bakedi, Bakidi, Elgumi, Etossio, Ikumama, Iteso, Teso or Wamia. It is closely related to Turkana and Karamojong. Luo Dialect
The Dholuo dialect (pronounced ) or ''Nilotic Kavirondo'', is a dialect of the Luo group of Nilotic languages, spoken by about 4.2 million Luo people of Kenya and Tanzania, who occupy parts of the eastern shore of Lake Victoria and areas to the south. It is also spoken by millions in Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. It is used for broadcasts on KBC (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, formerly the ''Voice of Kenya''). Dholuo is mutually intelligible with Alur, Lango, Acholi and Adhola of Uganda. Dholuo and the aforementioned Uganda languages are all linguistically related to Jur chol of South Sudan and Anuak of Ethiopia due to common ethnic origins of the larger Luo peoples who speak Luo languages.
