Builth Wells F.C. is a Welsh football club based in Builth Wells, Powys. They are currently playing in the Ardal Leagues North East, the third tier of the Welsh football pyramid. The club is the most successful club in the history of the Mid Wales South Football League, with ten championship wins. The club's reserve team currently plays in this league. History The club was formed in 1879. In 1988-89 the club joined the Mid-Wales League. In 2000 the club left the –Mid-Wales League. In 2010-11 the club rejoined Mid-Wales League from the Mid-Wales League (South). In 2014 the club were relegated to Division Two. In 2017–18 the club were Mid-Wales League Division Two Champions, and were subsequently promoted to Division One. For the 2020–21 season the team played in the newly formed Mid Wales League East Division (the fourth tier of the Welsh football pyramid). Builth Wells
Builth Wells (; cy, Llanfair-ym-Muallt) is a market town and community in the county of Powys and historic county of Brecknockshire (Breconshire), mid Wales, lying at the confluence of rivers Wye and Irfon, in the Welsh (or upper) part of the Wye Valley. In 2011 it had a population of 2,568. Etymology ''Builth'' is a longstanding anglicization of the Old Welsh ''Buellt/Buallt'', which combines ''bu'' () " ox" and ''gellt'' (later ''gwellt'') " lea or leas". The town added "Wells" in the 19th century when its springs were promoted as a visitor attraction. Its modern Welsh name ''Llanfair-ym-Muallt'' means "Saint Mary in Ox Leas". In the centre of the town is a large mural (about by wide) depicting Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, who was killed at the Battle of Orewin Bridge on 11 December 1282. Ardal Leagues
The Ardal Leagues are a football league in Wales. The word "ardal" translates as "district" in English, with Wales split into four regions at this level. They have clubs with amateur/semi-professional status and sit at the third level of the Welsh football league system. The first year of their operation would have been 2020–21 but the 2020–21 Ardal North East season, 2020–21 Ardal North West season, 2020–21 Ardal South East season and 2020–21 Ardal South West season were all cancelled. The inaugural season was moved to 2021–22. The creation of the leagues mark the first time the Football Association of Wales owns and is administering tier 3 of the Welsh league system. It is currently called the ''Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South)'' for sponsorship reasons. The founder members of the league were Brecon St John's, Felindre, Llandrindod Wells, Llanwrthwl, Llanwrtyd, Presteigne St. Andrew's, Rhayader Town and Whitton. Felindre were the first league champions. The league lies in the fifth level of the Welsh football league system. Teams may be promoted to the Mid Wales Football League if standards and facilities fall into line with the regulations of the Mid Wales League.
