East Craigs
East Craigs is a residential district of Edinburgh located in the north-west of the city, on the western flanks of Corstorphine Hill. It lies next to the green belt, and prior to development was a working farm. Development of the area began in 1922 when East Craigs Farm was purchased by the Scottish Agricultural Science Agency (SASA) as a centre for agricultural research. However, much of the land was made available to housing developers from the 1930s onwards. It neighbours West Craigs (which is much less developed, at present), Maybury, Drumbrae and Corstorphine. History "Craigs" is an old Broad Scots word for rocks, derived from Celtic, and it is named in contradistinction to nearby "West Craigs". Maybury
Maybury is an area on the western edge of Edinburgh, Scotland, near South Gyle and Ingliston, named after the road, which is itself named after the civil engineer Sir Henry Maybury (1864–1943). In 2021, residents have been undertaking community clean ups to clear the foot paths along the road. The area is residential in the north east/east and commercial in the south and west and The Gyle Shopping Centre is nearby. In 2021, there was a consultation about creating a Primary School and Health Centre in Maybury. Historic Buildings Dominated by a major road junction, the most notable feature is the Maybury Roadhouse, built in 1936 and one of Edinburgh's examples of Art Deco architecture, it was designed by Paterson and Broom. Cammo
Cammo () is a northwestern suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is south of A90, at the edge of the city, approximately from the city centre. Etymology The name is Celtic in origin, but could have originated either in Scottish Gaelic or Cumbric. In the former case it would be an adjectival form of Gaelic ''cambas'' 'bay. creek'; in the latter it would be from Brittonic *''cambāco-'', an adjectival form of *''camas'' 'bend in river, bay'. This element would probably refer to a bend of the river in this context, as Cammo is inland. Cammo House To the west of the housing area there is the former estate of Cammo House. The house was built for John Menzies in 1693, and the surrounding parkland was laid out between 1710-26 by Sir John Clerk of Penicuik (1676–1755). Barnton, Edinburgh
Barnton ( gd, Baile an t-Sabhail) is a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the north-west of the city, between Cramond and Corstorphine Hill and west of Davidsons Mains. Part of the area was traditionally known as "Cramond Muir" in reference to Cramond to the north. Notable buildings It is home to the Royal High School of Edinburgh designed by Reid and Forbes in 1964. Braehead House, a complex house centred on a 15th-century remodelled Scottish tower house hides amongst modern housing. The Royal Burgess Golfing Society, one of the oldest golf societies in the world with a clubhouse dating from 1896. Cargilfield Preparatory School lies to the north.
