Brás (São Paulo Metro)
Brás is a station on the Line 3-Red of São Paulo Metro and on the Lines 10-Turquoise, 11-Coral, 12-Sapphire and the Service 710 of CPTM. History The first station at this location was opened on February 16, 1867, under the name 'Braz' by the São Paulo Railway (SPR). On November 6, 1875, the Northern Railway (Estrada de Ferro do Norte, later the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil) opened a terminal station, called the 'Estação do Norte' for their northern rail lines. The name of this station was changed to "Roosevelt" on September 15, 1945, by presidential decree in homage to the American President Franklin Roosevelt, who died that year. During the 1950s the government took control of the lines operated by the SPR, and creating the National Rail Company RFFSA (liquidated in 2007). Service 710 ( pt, Serviço 710) is a commuter rail service operated by Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos in the Greater São Paulo, Brazil. It is a route that unifies both lines 7-Ruby and 10-Turquoise of the metropolitan rail network of the state of São Paulo. It offers a service from Jundiaí to Rio Grande da Serra stations and from Francisco Morato to Mauá during peak hours. Paranapiacaba
Paranapiacaba is a district of the municipality of Santo André in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. It is located approximately by road southeast of the centre of the city of São Paulo, and about east of Rio Grande da Serra. The word ''paranapiacaba'' means "where you will find the sea" in Tupi. There are about 1,200 residents. Paranapiacaba was established as a company town for the employees of São Paulo Railway, a privately owned British railway company. A large industrial complex, which the district is known for, lies off the main road from Rio Grande da Serra, on the way into the main village. Estrada De Ferro Central Do Brasil
The Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil was one of the principal railways of Brazil, uniting the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Origins On 9 February 1855, The imperial government of Brazil signed a contract with Edward Price for the construction of the first section of a railway which had the aim of linking the court (then in the city of Rio de Janeiro) with the provinces of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The Immigrant Inn ( pt-BR, Hospedaria dos Imigrantes) is a building in São Paulo. Construction started in 1886, and opened in 1887 (before completion), with the first group of immigrants arriving on 5 June 1887, before construction was completed in 1888. It was the main place for new immigrants to stay when arriving in the state of São Paulo at a time when coffee production in Brazil was being expanded and slavery in Brazil had been abolished. During the 19th and 20th century, people from over 70 nationalities arrived in Brazil, and over 2.5 million passed through the hostel. It replaced a former hostel in the Bom Retiro district that was in poor condition and lacked basic sanitation. Bilhete Único (''Unified Ticket'') is the name of the São Paulo transportation contactless smart card system for fare control. RFFSA
The Rede Ferroviária Federal, Sociedade Anônima (RFFSA, pronounced as ''Refesa'') () was the State-owned national railway company of Brazil created from ''Brazilian Federal Law #3.115'' on March 16, 1957, after several railroads were nationalized by the Brazilian government. However, the railroad did not take full effect until September 30, 1957. The RFFSA linked 42 railways together (both on documents and actual railroads), creating a regional system composed of 22 railroads.
