Newcastle () is a small seaside resort town in County Down, Northern Ireland, which had a population of 7,672 at the 2011 Census. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Ladies' Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach na mBan) is a women's team sport. It is the women's equivalent of Gaelic football. Ladies' football is organised by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association. Two teams of 15 players kick or hand-pass a round ball towards goals at each end of a grass pitch, since May 2022 women Gaelic footballers have to wear shin pads. County Down
County Down () is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland, one of the nine counties of Ulster and one of the traditional thirty-two counties of Ireland. The Ulster Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition played between the top clubs in Ulster GAA. The Down Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Down GAA clubs. The Down County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. Kilcoo are the title holders (2022) defeating Warrenpoint in the Final. Kalum King
Kalum King is a Gaelic football player from County Down. He played for the Down senior inter-county football team and with his local club, Bryansford. King first played for Down in 2004, when he played a role in Down's promotion run in the national league that year. He restarted his county career in 2010, and started every game in the 2010 league season. In the 2010 championship, the team progressed to the All-Ireland Final against Cork. He was appointed Down's vice-captain in 2012, and was captain for various games. He reportedly left the Down squad ahead of the 2014 Ulster Championship. At club level, King was part of the Bryansford championship-winning side in 2003, and also part of the side that won the league title in 2014 after a match against Mayobridge in Kilcoo.
