Brusson, Aosta Valley
Brusson ( Valdôtain: ; Issime wae, Brütze; Gressoney wae, Britze) is a town and ''comune'' in Val d'Ayas, a left minor valley of the Aosta Valley region in Italy. It is well known as a summer and winter vacationing spot, and better known for its plentiful cross-country skiing trails. It is also a good starting point for climbing Monte Rosa. Brusson is part of the Monterosa Ski domain, home to cross-country skiing trails used for several World Cup races. On the road that leads to the panoramic Col di Joux, which connects Val d'Ayas with Saint-Vincent, there is the fountain where Napoleon is said to have quenched his thirst in 1800. The Chamousira Fenilliaz mine, the most important gold mine in the Aosta Valley discovered in 1899, is also located within the municipality and was active from 1900 until the end of the 1980s. Palasinaz Lakes (Italy)
The Palasinaz Lakes ( in Italian) are a group of lakes located in the Italian Alps, in the Aosta Valley region of northern Italy. They are of glacial origin and are situated in the southern foothills of the Monte Rosa group and are accessible from the villages of Brusson and Champoluc. The group is composed of the following lakes: the Lac Long, the Lago Pocia, the Lac du Couloir, the Lac Vert, and, the Lago della Battaglia. Above them rises Corno Bussola ()—or ''Mont de Boussolaz''—a mountain in the Pennine Alps. Location The Palasinaz Lakes are located in the Valle d'Ayas, in the North-western region of the Aosta Valley, in the province of Aosta. Graines Castle
The Castle of Graines is a castle in Val d'Ayas, located near the village with the same name in the municipality of Brusson, Aosta Valley, northern Italy. It occupies the summit of a rocky spur which commands Brusson and most of the Val d'Ayas. In medieval times, it communicated through flag or mirror messages with the nearby Bonot Tower and the Villa Castle in Challand-Saint-Victor. According to a legend, a large treasure lies buried under the castle. History The fief of Graines is documented since 515, when King Sigismund of Burgundy donated it to the newly formed Abbey of St. Maurice. The castle was perhaps built in the 11th century by its monks, who built the Romanesque chapel which is still visible in the interior. In 1263 the abbey sold the fief to Godefroi of Challant, a faithful vassal of the House of Savoy, whose family held the castle until the 18th century. Monterosa Ski
The Monterosa Ski is an Italian ski resort, at the foot of Monte Rosa the second tallest mountain in the Alps, which links three valleys, located largely in the Aosta Valley and the remainder in Piedmont. Much of the area consists of easy and intermediate skiing, but the area around the Passo dei Salati and especially the steep slopes in Alagna Valsesia are a major and very famous destination for freeride skiers and snow-boarders. Description The area takes its name from the huge and spectacular Monte Rosa massif as the heads of its three constituent valleys are located within this group.
