Brussels Central Station (french: Gare de Bruxelles-Central, nl, Station Brussel-Centraal), officially Brussels-Central (french: Bruxelles-Central, link=no, nl, Brussel-Centraal, link=no), is a railway and metro station in central Brussels, Belgium. It is the second busiest railway station in Belgium and one of three principal railway stations in Brussels, together with Brussels-South and Brussels-North. First completed in 1952 after protracted delays caused by economic difficulties and World War II, it is the newest of Brussels' main rail hubs. Brussels-Central is connected to the rapid transit / station on lines 1 and 5 of the Brussels Metro system, and serves as an important node of the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB/MIVB). Zaventem
Zaventem () is a Belgian municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant. It is located in the Dijleland area, one of the three large recreational areas which together form the '' Groene Gordel'' ("Green Belt") around the Brussels-Capital Region. The municipality comprises the subdivisions or deelgemeenten of Nossegem, Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Sterrebeek and Zaventem proper. On 1 January 2006 Zaventem had a total population of 28,651. The total area is , which gives a population density of 1,037 inhabitants per km2. The official language is Dutch as it is within the Flemish Region. Zaventem is the home of Brussels Airport, together with neighbouring town of Diegem. The ( French) or (Dutch) is a former quarter located in central Brussels, Belgium. The district was centred around Saint Mary Magdalene's Church between the /, the / and the current /. It was largely destroyed starting in the 1920s with the works of the North–South connection, to develop the area for Brussels Central Station and other modern office buildings. The Small Ring (french: Petite Ceinture, nl, Kleine Ring) inner ring road, formally R20 and N0 is a series of roadways in central Brussels, Belgium, surrounding the historic city centre. The city centre is usually defined as the area within the Small Ring; this area is called the Pentagon due to its pentagonal shape. The pentagon forms the core of the City of Brussels municipality. The road was built on the site of the 14th-century second walls of Brussels, after they had been torn down. During the second stage of the covering of the Senne in the 20th century, the river was diverted to underneath the western boulevards of the ring. This freed up the main tunnels that had contained the water to allow construction of the Brussels premetro with minimal disruption of the surface. The Small Ring is about 8 km long. This list of Brussels metro and ''premetro'' stations includes all the underground stations in the Brussels metro and ''premetro'' network, arranged by line. The ''premetro'' refers to sections of the Brussels tramway network which run underground and at metro frequency. Line 1 Line 1 replaces former Line 1B since 4 April 2009. Line 1 does not service though the stations between Erasme/Erasmus and Jacques Brel, which are now serviced by Line 5.
