Brunei National Football Team
The Brunei national football team (; recognized as Brunei Darussalam by FIFA), nicknamed ''Tebuan'' (The Wasps), is the national team of Brunei, controlled by the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam. The team was founded in 1959 and joined FIFA in 1969. In the past, they have also frequently featured in the Malaysian league and cup competitions as Brunei M-League Team, one of the state representative sides. The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam ( ms, Persatuan Bolasepak Brunei Darussalam; abbrev: FABD) is the governing body of football in Brunei, controlling the Brunei national football team. History FABD is the successor organisation of the Brunei Football Association (BAFA) that was banned by FIFA and AFC in 2009 for government interference. At its meeting on May 30, 2011, the Fifa Executive Committee, presided over by president Joseph S. Blatter, resolved to remove the suspensions against the football associations of Bosnia-Herzegovina (FFBH) and Brunei Darussalam. 2006 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2006 AFC Challenge Cup was held between 1 and 16 April 2006 in Bangladesh. Sixteen teams were split into four groups, the top two in each group qualifying for the quarterfinals, and from then on a straight knockout contest. There was no qualification stage. The cup winner was Tajikistan. The fair play award was won by Sri Lanka and Tajikistani Ibrahim Rabimov won the most valuable player award. The AFC Asian Cup is the primary association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), determining the continental champion of Asia. 1986 FIFA World Cup
The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format. Colombia had been originally chosen to host the competition by FIFA but, largely due to economic reasons, was not able to do so, and resigned in 1982. Mexico was selected as the new host in May 1983, and became the first country to host the World Cup more than once, after previously hosting in 1970. History Early days The Brunei State Amateur Football Association was formed in 1952 in Seria, Brunei. It was formally registered to the Registrar of Soceities in 1956, and afterwards joined FIFA in 1969 as the Brunei Amateur Football Association or simply BAFA, which it was still referred to as until its final days even after the dropping of 'Amateur' from its name in 1993. The association was responsible for Brunei's participation in the annual Borneo Cup, and from 1979 to 2005, the Brunei representative team in the Malaysian leagues. 2009 FIFA ban In September 2009 the association was banned globally by FIFA due to government interference in the association. Brunei M-League Team
The Brunei Football Association used to enter a team in Malaysian football competitions. The team won the Malaysia Cup in 1999. The team played at the 35,000-seat Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan. History Brunei first entered the Malaysian football league competitions in 1979. When the Liga Semi-Pro was introduced in Malaysia in 1989, Brunei also were invited along with Singapore, the other foreign team in Malaysian competition.
