Otsego County ( ''), formerly known as Okkuddo County, is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 25,091. The county seat is Gaylord. The county was founded in 1840 and organized in 1875. Etymology Otsego may be a Native American name meaning "place of the rock". However, an alternative theory is that it derives from a lake and a county in New York state, which are said to bear the name derived from a Mohawk Iroquoian word meaning either "clear water" or "meeting place." Ogemaw County ( ') is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 20,770. The county seat is West Branch. The county newspaper of record is the ''Ogemaw Herald''. History Ogemaw County started as part of the Virginia Land owned by England. After the Revolutionary War, it broke up into smaller and smaller pieces. Joel Sheltrown
Joel Sheltrown (born 1947) is a Democratic politician from the state of Michigan. He served in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 103rd District, which at the time included all of Iosco, Missaukee, Ogemaw and Roscommon counties. He was elected on November 2, 2004 to replace outgoing Rep. Dale Sheltrown, his brother. He left office in 2010 due to term limits. Biography Joel Sheltrown is a lifelong resident of northern Michigan's Ogemaw County. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1965 and then attended Western Michigan University and Kirtland Community College. In 1966, Joel Sheltrown enlisted in the United States Navy and was sent to Viet Nam. He achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer as a Communications Technician with a Top Secret Crypto Clearance.
