Bruce McLeod (clergyman)
N. Bruce McLeod (born 1930) is a former Moderator of the United Church of Canada (1972–1974). He has a doctorate in preaching from Union Theological Seminary in New York. Once the minister of Bloor Street United Church in downtown Toronto and a frequent columnist in the ''United Church Observer'', as Moderator McLeod practised extensive outreach via television and by ministry in shopping malls and elsewhere in the world beyond traditional congregational worship. He envisioned a United Church of Canada that would become more open and welcoming to new ideas than had previously been the case, and one in which regional sensibilities as to then-current issues such as abortion would be given credibility. During his term, McLeod also succeeded in encouraging more friendly relations between Jews and the United Church of Canada. The Very Reverend is a Style (manner of address), style given to members of the clergy. The 1981 Ontario general election was held on March 19, 1981, to elect members of the 32nd Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, Canada. The governing Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, led by Bill Davis, was re-elected for a twelfth consecutive term in office. The PCs finally won a majority government after winning only minorities in the 1975 and 1977 elections. The Liberal Party, led by Stuart Smith, was able to maintain its standing in the Legislature, while the New Democratic Party, led by Michael Cassidy, lost a significant number of seats, allowing the Tories to win a majority. The Moderator of the United Church of Canada is the most senior elected official within the United Church of Canada. He or she may be a lay person or a member of the Order of Ministry and is elected to a three-year term by commissioners attending the church's triannual General Council. Susan Fish
Susan de Avellar Schiller (born March 21, 1945) is a former Canadian politician. She served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1981 to 1987, and was a cabinet minister in the governments of Bill Davis and Frank Miller. Background Schiller was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and raised in Carle Place and Levittown, New York. Her father was a sailor in the US Navy and her mother was Brazilian. Her parents separated when she was three years old and her stepfather was in import/export in New York City. She attended St. Lawrence College where she received a degree in political science and obtained a masters in public administration at New York University.
