Bruce Mann (rugby League)
Bruce Mann (1926–2007) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played his entire career for Parramatta in the NSWRL competition. Early life Mann was born and raised in the Parramatta district and began playing rugby union at a young age culminating in playing with the Parramatta rugby union team before switching to rugby league. Playing career Mann made his debut for Parramatta in 1948, a year after the club was admitted into the competition. Mann spent 10 long seasons at Parramatta in which the club struggled on the field due to a lack of resources and playing talent with the bulk of the squad made up of amateur players and park footballers who had to compete against clubs like South Sydney, Newtown and St George who fielded representative players. Mann claimed 5 wooden spoons as a player with Parramatta during that time but stayed loyal to the club and was the first Parramatta player to reach 100 first grade matches ... The Parramatta Eels are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta that competes in the National Rugby League. The Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1947, and their home ground was Parramatta Stadium (formerly Cumberland Oval). As of 2019, Parramatta's home ground stadium has been rebuilt and they now play as the co-tenants at Western Sydney Stadium, which sits on the same site that was once Parramatta Stadium. It took thirty years for the club to make the grand final, which they did in 1976 and 1977, losing on both occasions. However, this period foreshadowed their most successful period in the early 1980s, when they won four premierships and qualified for five grand finals in six seasons. Roy Fisher (rugby League)
Roy Fisher is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played for Parramatta and North Sydney as a prop. Playing career Fisher made his first grade debut for Parramatta in 1953 after having played in Yass as a junior and being recruited by the blue and golds during the preceding off-season. Despite having a long career with Parramatta, Fisher's time at the Eels was not a successful one as the club struggled on the field for many years. This was mainly due to the club fielding a squad mostly made up of park footballers and local amateur players. Other clubs in the 1950s like Balmain, St. George, Wests, Souths, and Newtown were recruiting many top-class players from country New South Wales and increasingly from Queensland. Phil John Mann (born 16 October 1953) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played for the Parramatta Eels, as a . At 201 cm (6 ft 7 in) tall, Mann was one of the tallest players to ever play the game. He is the son of former Parramatta Eels player Bruce Mann. Playing career A junior from Hills District, Mann was graded with the Parramatta Eels for the 1973 season, and made his first grade debut for the Eels in the 1974 season. At his most effective when in top stride, Mann was one of the Eels' best players during the series of sudden death play-offs to decide the final five semi-finalists in 1975. At the end of the 1975 season, Mann played in Parramatta's first ever reserve grade premiership team.
