''Rosa'' 'Charlotte Brownell' is a yellow-blend Hybrid tea rose cultivar, bred by American rose breeder Dr. Walter Brownell, before 1971. The rose is part of a series the Brownell family developed to withstand the sub-zero temperatures of winter in Rhode Island. Description 'Charlotte Brownell' is a medium, bushy, spreading Hybrid tea rose, in height, with a spread. Its flowers are large in size, , with a high-centered, globular, double (17-25 petals) bloom form. Flower color is a light yellow with pink edges. 'Charlotte Brownell' blooms are carried mostly singly or in small clusters throughout the season. Leaves are glossy and medium green. The plant is a very vigorous grower. Rosa 'Peace'
The Peace rose, formally ''Rosa'' 'Madame A. Meilland', is a well-known and successful garden rose. By 1992, over one hundred million plants of this hybrid tea had been sold. The cultivar has large flowers of a light yellow to cream color, slightly flushed at the petal edges with crimson-pink. It is hardy and vigorous and relatively resistant to disease, making it popular in gardens as well as in the floral trade. It was developed by French horticulturist Francis Meilland, in the years 1935 to 1939. When Meilland foresaw the German invasion of France, he sent cuttings to friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States to protect the new rose. It is said that it was sent to the US on the last plane available before the German invasion, where it was safely propagated by the Conard Pyle Co. during the war. Hybrid tea is an informal horticultural classification for a group of garden roses. The first hybrid tea roses were created in France in the mid-1800s, by cross-breeding the large, floriferous Hybrid Perpetuals with the tall, elegant Tea roses. The Hybrid tea is the oldest class of Modern garden roses. Hybrid teas exhibit traits midway between their parents, being hardier than the often delicate Tea roses, and with a better ability for repeat-flowering than the more robust Hybrid Perpetuals. Hybrid tea flowers are well-formed with large, high-centred buds, supported by long, straight and upright stems. Each flower can grow to 8–12.5 cm wide. Hybrid teas are the largest and most popular group of rose, due to their elegant form and large variety of colours. Little Compton, Rhode Island
Little Compton is a coastal town in Newport County, Rhode Island, bounded on the south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by the Sakonnet River, on the north by the town of Tiverton, and on the east by the town of Westport, Massachusetts. The population was 3,616 at the 2020 census. History Little Compton was originally inhabited by the Sakonnet Indians and their settlement was called Sakonnet or Saughonet.
