Brown Bears Men's Ice Hockey
The Brown Bears men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Brown University. The Bears are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. History The men's ice hockey team at Brown is one of the country's oldest programs, having played their first game in 1898. That season, the team helped to form the first informal conference, the Intercollegiate Hockey Association, and wound up winning the league championship. While there was no formal declaration at the time, Brown's title is sometimes referred to as the first ice hockey national championship. Brown nearly repeated the feat three years later but ultimately fell to Yale in the first two playoff games ever contested for college ice hockey. The Brown Bears are the sports teams that represent Brown University, an American university located in Providence, Rhode Island. The Bears are part of the Ivy League conference. Brown's mascot is Bruno. Both the men's and women's teams share the name, competing in 28 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I sports. Jack Ferreira
Jack Ferreira (born June 9, 1944) is an American ice hockey executive. He is currently acting as the Special Assistant to the General Manager of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Jack Ferreira played for the Boston University Terriers in the mid-1960s under head coach Jack Kelley and was part of the hall-of-Fame coach's first recruiting class at BU. Named 'Mr. Magoo' by his teammates due to being legally blind, Ferreira's breakout year came as a junior in 1965 when he backstopped the Terriers to a 25-6 record and won the ECAC regular season title. Though BU would fall to Brown in the conference semifinals, preventing the Terriers from making the 1965 tournament, Ferreira had a lasting impact with his school-record 8 shutouts that still stands (As of 2016). Tim Bothwell
Timothy John Bothwell (born May 6, 1955, in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a retired professional ice hockey defenceman, defenseman who played 502 games in the National Hockey League. He played for the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and Hartford Whalers, and several American Hockey League, AHL teams. Before his professional career, he played at Brown University Bears, Brown, where he was a three-time all-Ivy League defenseman, member of the Bruins' 1975-76 NCAA semi-finalists, and captain of the team the next two seasons. Tim was inducted into the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984. He retired from playing hockey in 1990. Coaching career After his time as a player he became an assistant and coach. The games were played at the Méribel Ice Palace in Méribel, about 45 km from host city Albertville. The competition, held from 8 to 23 February, was won by the Unified Team in its only appearance. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, was the 15th Olympic Championship. The Soviet Union won its sixth gold medal. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble, France, was the 11th Olympic Championship, also serving as the 35th World Championships and the 46th European Championships. This was the last Olympic tournament to include the World and European titles. Games were held at the Palais des Sports.
