Brother Records
Brother Records, Inc. (BRI) is an American holding company and record label established in 1966 that owns the intellectual property rights of the Beach Boys, including "The Beach Boys" trademark. It was founded by brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, and their cousin Mike Love. As of 2011, the corporation was equally owned by four shareholders and directors: Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and the estate of Carl Wilson. Background and formation The Beach Boys decided to form their own label, Brother Records, in response to Capitol Records' lack of support for the band's more ambitious album ideas. According to biographer Steven Gaines, Mike Love was "the most receptive" to the proposal, wanting the Beach Boys to have more creative control over their work, and supported Brian Wilson's decision to employ his newfound "best friend" David Anderle as head of the label, even though it was against band manager Nick Grillo's wishes. The Flame (The Flames Album)
''The Flame'' is a 1970 album released by South African band The Flames produced by Beach Boys member Carl Wilson. It's the only non-Beach Boys album to be released on their Brother Records label—albeit distributed by Starday-King Records as opposed to Reprise. According to Jerry Osbourne, "''The Flame'' is widely-regarded as the first quad LP." To avoid confusion with James Brown's band of the same name, the "s" on the Flames was dropped, but it was retained on South African pressings. Unlike previous Flames albums which contain covers, all eleven tracks are original, written by the band. The Flames
The Flames was a musical rock group from Durban in South Africa. They performed across London in the late 1960s, where they met Brian Jones, Keith Moon, Keith Richards, Jerry Garcia, Miles Davis and Carl Wilson. They later traveled to Los Angeles to record an album for The Beach Boys' record label Brother Records, for which they changed their name to The Flame. ''Sunflower'' is the sixteenth studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released on August 31, 1970, and their first on Reprise Records. It received favorable reviews, but sold poorly, reaching number 151 on the US record charts during a four-week stay and becoming the lowest-charting Beach Boys album to that point. " Add Some Music to Your Day" was the only single that charted in the US, peaking at number 64. In the UK, the album peaked at number 29. ''Smiley Smile'' is the 12th studio album by American Rock music, rock band the Beach Boys, released on September 18, 1967. It reached number 9 on UK record charts, but sold poorly in the US, peaking at number 41—the band's lowest chart placement to that point. Critics and fans generally received the album and its lead single, "Heroes and Villains", with confusion and disappointment. "Vegetables" (early versions spelled as "Vega-Tables") is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1967 album ''Smiley Smile''. Written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, it was one of the last tracks recorded for the unfinished album ''Smile'' and was briefly projected to be that album's lead single. Like other tracks on ''Smiley Smile'', the finished arrangement was more stripped-down than the version conceived for ''Smile''. The song was partly inspired by Wilson's obsession with physical fitness in the late 1960s. ''Smile'' (stylized as ''SMiLE'') is an unfinished album by the American rock band the Beach Boys that was planned to follow their 11th studio album ''Pet Sounds'' (1966). It was to be a 12-track LP that drew from over 50 hours of interchangeable sound fragments, similar to the group's 1966 single "Good Vibrations". Instead, after a year of recording, the album was shelved and the group released a downscaled version, ''Smiley Smile'', in September 1967. Danny Hutton
Daniel Anthony Hutton (born September 10, 1942) is an Irish-American singer, best known as one of the three lead vocalists in the band Three Dog Night. Hutton was a songwriter and singer for Hanna-Barbera Records from 1965 to 1966.
