Bromley London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Bromley. The council is elected every four years. Bromley is a large town in Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley. It is south-east of Charing Cross, and had an estimated population of 87,889 as of 2011. Originally part of Kent, Bromley became a market town, chartered in 1158. Its location on a coaching route and the opening of a railway station in 1858 were key to its development and the shift from an agrarian village to an urban town. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Bromley significantly increased in population and was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1903 and became part of the London Borough of Bromley in 1965. 1994 Bromley London Borough Council Election
The 1994 Bromley Council election took place on 5 May 1994 to elect members of Bromley London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. Background The Conservatives went into the election defending a large majority won in 1990. However, that majority had been reduced by two when the Liberal Democrats gained Chelsfield & Goddington in the 1993 by-election. Election result The turnout across the borough was 48.1%, the second highest turn out in the council's history. For the Conservatives, 40.9% was their lowest share of the vote of all the nine sets of elections to date and 32 was also their lowest number of seats won. Chelsfield & Goddington
Chelsfield is an area in south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley and the historic county of Kent. It lies south of Goddington, west of Well Hill, north of Pratt's Bottom and east of Green Street Green. The area is split into two distinct areas – the historic 'village' section, and the newer development by the train station. History The name is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Cillesfelle", meaning "land of a man called Cēol". Another older variant was 'Chilesfeld'. The village church was constructed in the early Norman period, and gives its names to the Five Bells pubs. Chelsfield was historically a stopping place for drovers. In 1868 Chelsfield station was opened, however, it was located 1 mile west of the village. Marion Roe
Dame Marion Audrey Roe DBE (born 15 July 1936 in London) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom, and former MP. Early life and career She went to the independent Bromley High School for Girls in Bickley, then the independent Croydon High School. She studied at the English School of Languages in Vevey in Switzerland. Roe served on the Greater London Council. Parliamentary career She unsuccessfully contested the Barking constituency at the 1979 general election, achieving a 14% swing. Roe became Member of Parliament for Broxbourne from 1983 until 2005. John Spellar
John Francis Spellar (born 5 August 1947) is a British politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Warley, formerly Warley West, since 1992. A member of the Labour Party, he previously represented Birmingham Northfield from 1982 to 1983. He served as a minister in numerous departments between 1997 and 2005 and later served as Comptroller of the Household in the Whips' Office between 2008 and 2010. Michael Neubert
Sir Michael Jon Neubert (3 September 1933 – 3 January 2014) was Conservative MP for Romford from 1974 until 1997. His loss in the landslide 1997 general election was considered something of a surprise. He was educated at Bromley Grammar School and Downing College, Cambridge and worked as a travel and industrial consultant. He was a local councillor and alderman in Bromley 1960–1974 being council leader for a time and Mayor of Bromley in 1972. In England, local authorities are required to adopt one of three types of executive arrangements, having either an "elected mayor and cabinet", a "leader and cabinet", or a "committee system". The type of arrangement used determines how decisions will be made within the council. The 2022 Bromley London Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. All 58 members of Bromley London Borough Council were elected. The elections took place alongside local elections in the other London boroughs and elections to local authorities across the United Kingdom. In the previous election in 2018, the Conservative Party maintained its longstanding control of the council, winning 50 out of the 60 seats with the Labour Party forming the primary opposition with eight of the remaining seats.
