Bromley Cross Railway Station
Bromley Cross railway station, on Chapeltown Road in Bromley Cross, a suburb to the north of Bolton, England, is served by the Northern 'Ribble Valley' line north of Bolton. The station is just south of the point where the double line merges into one. History Grade II-listed Bromley Cross Railway Station was established in June 1848, on a branch line authorised by an Act of 30 June 1845, initially by the Blackburn, Darwen and Bolton Railway and was originally provided with a temporary, timber station 'building', described in one local newspaper report of 1854 as a 'cold wooden shed'. This founding railway merged to become The Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway in 1847, which later became part of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) in 1858. Bolton
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish people, Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. The Transport Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo. 6 c. 49) was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) was a major British railway company before the 1923 Grouping. It was incorporated in 1847 from an amalgamation of several existing railways. The Oaks Railway Station
The Oaks railway station served the community of The Oaks in Bromley Cross, Lancashire, England, from 1850 to 1950. History The station was possibly opened by the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway (BBC&WYR) in January 1850, although an earlier date of 1849 is given by W. D. Tattersall in his book about the branch line. The station was a request stop until 1852. The short length original low height platform survives, as replicated at nearby Bromley Cross. Turton And Edgworth Railway Station
Turton and Edgworth railway station, located at 4 miles, 856 yards from Bolton, on the Bolton to Blackburn line, opened as Chapel Town Station. The short length original low height platform seen in early photographs at the front of the station building are replicated exactly at Bromley Cross, itself known to have opened in June 1848. Permanent station buildings were provided along the line in 1859, constructed with locally quarried sandstone, by Joseph Greenup and Co of Manchester. The original minutes of the railway company held at National Archives, Kew, reveal that the engineers drew up the plans for the 1859 building at Chapel Town and minute 273, dated 25 May 1859, reveals that tenders were sought for a station and detached cottage and loading shed at Chapel Town, at an estimated cost of £500. Hall I' Th' Wood Railway Station
Hall i' th' Wood railway station is the last stop before Bolton on the Northern Trains franchise's Ribble Valley Line into Blackburn and Clitheroe in England. The station opened by British Rail on 29 September 1986. It is located in the middle of a housing estate and forms an unofficial footpath between the two sides. In March 2008 work began on a new car park for the station. It takes its name from the nearby Hall i' th' Wood, now a museum which is within walking distance of the station. Facilities The station is unmanned and has basic amenities - waiting shelters and timetable posters on each platform, plus a telephone. Darwen railway station serves Darwen, a town in Lancashire, England. It was opened in 1847 by the ''Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe & West Yorkshire Railway'', which was subsequently taken over by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway twelve years later. Entwistle Railway Station
Entwistle railway station (first opened in 1848) is north of Bolton and serves the village of Entwistle. It is also the closest station to Edgworth. Unlike nearby the station lies outside the Transport for Greater Manchester boundary, meaning that passengers cannot take advantage of their special offers and ticketing. Owing to the remote location and low passenger numbers, Entwistle has been a request stop for several years, however since 21st May 2023, it is no longer a request stop, and all trains stop here. Smith and Yardley (also known as E.S. Yardley & Co.) were a firm of railway signalling and signal box contractors based in Manchester, England, United Kingdom. Emily Sophia Yardley Emily Sophia Yardley (1836-1905) was born Emily Sophia Buckley at Talk o' th' Hill, Staffordshire in 1836, the daughter of Thomas Buckley, a butcher and Emily, his wife. Her father died in 1838 and on 1 November of that year her mother married Humphrey Smith, a widower. Emily and her mother moved in with her step-father and his children at Duke Street, Manchester. She married Robert Pearce Yardley an ironmonger of Chorlton-on-Medlock on 2 May 1857 and they lived at 19 Darlington Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester.
