The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) ( ga, Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann) was established on 1 October 2009 effectively replacing the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) ( ga, Coimisiún Craolacháin na hÉireann). The BAI is the regulator of both public and commercial broadcasting sector in Ireland. History *The Authority came into being under the Broadcasting Act 2009. Prior to its establishment on 30 September 2009, as a Commission, it was set up as the Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC) under the terms of the Radio and Television Act 1988.
