Broad Arrow, Western Australia
Broad Arrow is a ghost town in Western Australia, located 38 km north of Kalgoorlie and 633 km east of Perth. It is on the Kalgoorlie to Leonora Road. History Initially called Kurawah, this was where gold was first discovered in 1893, triggering a gold rush in the region north of Kalgoorlie. The Broad Arrow Goldfield was gazetted on 11 November 1896, and in 1897 the municipality of Kurawah was declared. The town derives its name from the markers, in the shape of a broad arrow, left on the ground by a miner, Reison, who left them to direct his friends who were following him to a gold discovery he had made. His mine was also named ''Broad Arrow''. Extensions to the Eastern Goldfields Railway line from Kalgoorlie to Menzies was begun in August 1897, and reached Broad Arrow on 6 November the same year. Ora Banda, Western Australia
Ora Banda is a townsite and locality in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia located north-west of Kalgoorlie. The town name is Spanish meaning "band of gold". It includes several operational mines and at the 2016 Australian census had a population of eight people. History Gold was discovered in the district in 1893, and in 1909 the Ora Banda Progress Committee requested that the government make additional lots available, but it was 1911 before a decision was made to declare a townsite there. The survey of lots was made in 1911, and the townsite gazetted in 1912. By 1910 there were approximately 2,000 miners and their families living in the area. The town had two stores, two butchers, two bakers, a town hall, dining halls, a post office, a police station, churches, boarding houses and billiards saloons. The Shire of Boulder was a Local government areas of Western Australia, local government area in Western Australia. It was established as the East Coolgardie Road District on 15 February 1895. It was renamed the Kalgoorlie Road District on 24 September 1897. The board's offices were located at 39 Porter Street, Kalgoorlie; the building survives today and has been classified by the National Trust of Australia. It expanded significantly over subsequent decades as it absorbed abolished road districts in the region, absorbing the Bulong Road District on 9 June 1911, the Broad Arrow Road District on 7 July 1922 and the Kanowna Road District on 15 September 1922. The Broad Arrow Road District was an early form of local government area on the Western Australian goldfields. It was established on 15 December 1899, providing basic local government to the rural areas around the mining town of Broad Arrow, which had already been incorporated as the Municipality of Broad Arrow in 1897. The board's office was located in Broad Arrow township. The town of Paddington separated as the Municipality of Paddington on 14 June 1901 following agitation from disgruntled residents who felt that they were not receiving their fair proportion of board expenditure. It absorbed the Broad Arrow township and re-absorbed Paddington on 12 August 1910, when the amalgamated Municipality of Broad Arrow-Paddington merged into the district. The Municipality of Paddington was a local government area of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was proclaimed on 17 April 1860 and, with an area of 1.7 square kilometres, included the entire suburb of Paddington and parts of Edgecliff. The Municipality of Broad Arrow was a Local government areas of Western Australia, local government area in Western Australia centred on the mining town of Broad Arrow, Western Australia, Broad Arrow. It was established on 26 February 1897, following local agitation from the Broad Arrow Progress Committee. The first elections were held in April 1897, with the first formal meeting of the council held on 22 April.
