Lac La Biche County is a specialized municipality within Division No. 12 in northern Alberta, Canada. It was established through the amalgamation of the Town of Lac La Biche and Lakeland County in 2007. History Lac La Biche County was originally established as a municipal district on August 1, 2007 through the amalgamation of Lakeland County with the Town of Lac La Biche. Its predecessor municipal district, Lakeland County, was originally incorporated on July 1, 1998, formed from the northwestern part of the Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87. Four provinces and territories in Canada have legislation that allow municipalities to conduct a municipal census. These include the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan and the territories of Nunavut and Yukon. Geography Kikino Metis Settlement is a Metis settlement in central Alberta, Canada within Smoky Lake County. It is located along Highway 36, approximately west of Cold Lake. Kikino is one of 8 of the Metis Settlements. The Metis settlement is about 512,121 hectares and Kikino is the smallest community within the settlement with only 44,000 hectares of land The closest lake to the Kikino Metis Settlement is Cold Lake, Alberta. Cold Lake Air Weapons Range
Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake , abbreviated as CFB Cold Lake, is a Canadian Forces Base in the City of Cold Lake, Alberta. The facility is operated as an air force base by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and is approximately south of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range (CLAWR), which is used as practicing grounds by CFB Cold Lake's fighter pilots. The base is one of two in the country housing the CF-18 Hornet fighter, the other being CFB Bagotville. The base's primary RCAF lodger unit is 4 Wing, commonly referred to as 4 Wing Cold Lake. Civilian passenger service was available through the Medley passenger terminal on the air base. Lakeland County was a municipal district in northern Alberta, Canada. It existed for just over nine years from 1998 to 2007. History Lakeland County was originally formed as a municipal district on July 1, 1998 through the separation of lands from the Municipal District of Bonnyville No. 87. These lands included the Alberta portion of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. On May 1, 2002, Lakeland County absorbed Plamondon after it dissolved from village status. Northern Alberta
Northern Alberta is a geographic region located in the Canadian province of Alberta. An informally defined cultural region, the boundaries of Northern Alberta are not fixed. Under some schemes, the region encompasses everything north of the centre of the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor, including most of the province's landmass as well as its capital, Edmonton. Other schemes place Edmonton and its surrounding farmland in Central Alberta, limiting Northern Alberta to the northern half of the province, where forestry, oil, and gas are the dominant industries. Its primary industry is oil and gas, with large heavy oil reserves being exploited at the Athabasca oil sands and Wabasca area in the east of the region.
