Britton is a village in Lenawee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 586 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Ridgeway Township. History The village of Britton was originally called Balch and was established after the Wabash Railroad built a station there in 1881 and a post office opened on August 13, 1881. In 1888, a local storekeeper in charge of the post office named John Britton, paid $500 to have the town renamed after himself. The post office name was changed from Balch to Britton on April 13, 1888. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. Britton is located on the M-50, about nine miles (14 km) northeast of Adrian, along a line of the Norfolk Southern Railway. The main industries are agriculture and small business. North Perth is a lower-tier municipality in Ontario, Canada. Its name is based on its location in the northern portion of Perth County. The main community in North Perth is Listowel. Other communities include Atwood, Monkton, Elma and Wallace township. The municipality was incorporated in 1998, and is heavily agricultural. As of the 2016 Census, the township had a population of 13,130 in a land area of 493.14 square kilometres. There were 5,098 occupied private dwellings. History Town of Listowel Settler John Binning arrived in 1852 and was the first to create a permanent residence in the area originally named Mapleton. The name was changed to Listowel when a post office was established in 1856. The new name was chosen by a government official and refers to Listowel, Ireland. Britton is a former town in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, annexed by Oklahoma City in 1950. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. Britton, founded in 1889, bears the name of Washington D.C. railroad attorney, Alexander Britton, who worked for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. As part of its charter allowing a railroad to be built through Oklahoma, the United States required the construction of railway stations every seven miles. The first site north of Oklahoma City became the town of Britton. Britton's altitude is 1,220 feet above sea level and is the highest point on the Santa Fe Railroad between Kansas City, Missouri and Galveston, Texas.
