British High Commission Kampala
The British High Commission Kampala is the diplomatic mission of the Government of the United Kingdom to Uganda, representing the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom's interests. It is located on Windsor Loop in the Kampala suburb of Kamwookya, Kamwokya. The current British High Commissioner is Kate Airey who was appointed at the end of 2019, and started in November 2020. History Uganda became an independent sovereign country in Protectorate of Uganda, October 1962, at which time a British High Commission was established in Kampala. A site on which to build High Commission offices was leased for 99 years from 1963 at 10-12 Obote Avenue (sometimes called Parliament Avenue). The building, square with a central courtyard, was designed by the Ministry of Works and Transport (Uganda), Ministry of Works, with PA Searle as the architect, and completed in 1967. Kamwookya
Kamwookya, sometimes spelled as Kamwokya, is a location within the city of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest metropolitan area. Location Kamwookya is bordered by Kyebando to the north, Bukoto to the northeast, Naguru to the east, Kololo to the southeast, Nakasero to the south and Mulago to the west. 1998 United States Embassy Bombings
The 1998 United States embassy bombings were attacks that occurred on August 7, 1998. More than 200 people were killed in nearly simultaneous truck bomb explosions in two East African cities, one at the United States Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the other at the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed and Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah were credited with being the masterminds behind the bombings.
