Craig Murray
Craig John Murray (born 17 October 1958) is a Scottish author, human rights campaigner, journalist, and former diplomat for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Between 2002 and 2004, he was the British ambassador to Uzbekistan during which time he exposed the violations of human rights in Uzbekistan by the Karimov administration. This led to conflict with his superiors in the Foreign Office until finally he was removed from the post. Specifically, Murray lodged formal written complaints to the Foreign Office stating that it was morally and legally wrong to obtain intelligence under torture and that intelligence received by the Secret Intelligence Service (and the Central Intelligence Agency) from the Uzbek government was unreliable because it had been obtained through torture. Timothy Achille Torlot (born 17 September 1957) is a British diplomat serving as the British Ambassador to Uzbekistan since August 2019. Education He attended Worcester College, Oxford and gained a BA (Hons) degree in modern languages. Diplomatic career Tim Torlot joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1981. Following Arabic language training at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, he was posted as Third Secretary to Muscat in 1984 and to Wellington as Second Secretary in 1987. Returning to the FCO in 1992, he served in Personnel Management Department until 1995 and in South East Asian Department until 1997. He was posted to Santiago from 1997 to 2001. Christopher John Ingham CMG (born 4 June 1944) is a retired British Diplomat. Educated at St John's College, Cambridge, Ingham first joined Cadbury Brothers in 1966 before joining the Diplomatic Service in 1968. After postings in Moscow (1972-1974), Kolkata (1974), Kuwait (1974-1976), Vienna (IAEA/UNIDO) (1980-1985), and Mexico City (1986-1989), as well as time in the Office in London, Ingham was appointed as deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d'Affaires in Bucharest from 1991 to 1995. Dame Barbara Logan Hay (born 20 January 1953) is a British diplomat who served as Consul-General in Los Angeles from July 2009 to August 2013. Educated at Boroughmuir Senior Secondary School in Edinburgh Hay joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1971 as a visa clerk. Hay had started learning Russian at school and continued her training in Russian by spending a year at the Defence School of Languages in Beaconsfield. Hay was posted to the Embassy in Moscow in 1975 as a Third Secretary, transferring to Johannesburg as Vice Consul in 1978. After some time in London, Hay worked in Montreal from 1985 as Vice Consul and Commercial lead, before returning to Moscow, now as First Secretary for Information in 1988.
