James Craig (diplomat)
Sir (Albert) James Macqueen Craig (13 July 1924 – 26 September 2017) was a British diplomat who was ambassador to Syria and Saudi Arabia, also an academic and writer. Career Craig was born in Liverpool and educated at Liverpool Institute High School for Boys. He then won an exhibition to The Queen's College, Oxford. He gained first class in Classics Honour Moderations after his first year, then served in the army 1943–44 but left due to illness and returned to Oxford where he gained a first class degree in Arabic and Persian. He lectured in Arabic at Durham University 1948–55, taking a year off to study at Cairo University 1950–51. In 1955 he took leave from Durham to be senior lecturer at the Middle East Centre for Arab Studies. He joined the Foreign Office and was Political Agent in the Trucial States 1961–64. Simon Paul Collis, (23 February 1956) is a former British ambassador to several Middle Eastern countries before retiring from diplomatic service in February 2020. Biography Collis was educated at King Edward VII School, Sheffield, from 1967 until 1973 and at Christ's College, Cambridge. He joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1978 and served his first posting as Second Secretary in Bahrain from 1981 to 1984. William Patey
Sir William Charters Patey, KCMG (born 11 July 1953) is a British retired diplomat. He was British Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2010 to 2012, and previously served as Ambassador to Sudan, to Iraq and to Saudi Arabia. He retired from HM Diplomatic Service in April 2012 and was replaced by Sir Richard Stagg, formerly British High Commissioner to India. He has since worked in business. Derek Plumbly
Sir Derek Plumbly (born 15 May 1948) is a British diplomat who has served throughout the Arab world. From 2012 to 2015, he served as the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon. Early life Plumbly was born in the New Forest in Hampshire. He attended Brockenhurst Grammar School. He studied politics, philosophy and economics at Magdalen College, Oxford. Andrew Fleming Green, Baron Green of Deddington, KCMG (born 6 August 1941) is a former British diplomat. He is the founding president of MigrationWatch UK, an organisation arguing for lower immigration to the United Kingdom. He has also held a number of positions with voluntary organisations. Sir David Alwyn Gore-Booth (15 May 1943 – 31 October 2004) was a British diplomat, who served in the FCO from 1964 until 1998. Sir David was appointed HM Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in 1993, before his final posting as British High Commissioner in New Delhi 1996–1998. His father, Lord Gore-Booth GCMG was also High Commissioner to India 1960–1965.
