Bristol is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,219. It is the twin city of Bristol, Tennessee, just across the state line, which runs down the middle of its main street, State Street. It is surrounded on three sides by Washington County, Virginia, which is combined with the city for statistical purposes. Bristol is a principal city of the Kingsport–Bristol–Bristol, TN-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. Virginia High School (Virginia)
Virginia High School is a high school located in Bristol, Virginia. In 1999, Virginia High started offering the Tri-Cities area's first International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Classes from the Advanced Placement program are also offered to help students who are headed to college. A career and technical wing was added to the main school building to help students who wish to go into a trade straight from high school. Courses offered for this path include: culinary arts, cybersecurity, engineering and manufacturing, coding, business, horticulture, auto-mechanics, building trades, and nursing. Activities include: athletics, academic teams, Spring Festival, and Queen of Hearts. Virginia Middle School
Virginia Middle School is a former high school, is a historical landmark, and is now a Middle school#United States, middle school located in Bristol, Virginia. It is a part of Bristol Virginia Public Schools. History Located at 501 Piedmont Avenue, the original section of the school was completed in 1914 and served as Virginia High School until 1953. In 1953, a new high school was built and this site became Virginia Junior High School serving seventh and eighth grade students. After a concept study by the School Board, the name was changed to Virginia Middle School in 1990. The school underwent an extensive renovation in 1995 and was completed for total occupancy in 1996, allowing it to serve the sixth through eighth grades. The school presently serves grades six through eight. The building was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1996 and received National Register of Historic Places status in 1997. Stonewall Jackson
Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson (January 21, 1824 – May 10, 1863) was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, considered one of the best-known Confederate commanders, after Robert E. Lee. He played a prominent role in nearly all military engagements in the Eastern Theater of the war until his death, and had a key part in winning many significant battles. Military historians regard him as one of the most gifted tactical commanders in U.S. history. Born in what was then part of Virginia (now in West Virginia), Jackson received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in the class of 1846. Bristol Tennessee City Schools
Bristol Tennessee City Schools is a school district headquartered in Bristol, Tennessee. It includes almost all of the city limits of Bristol. Gary Lilly served as superintendent from 2009, until he resigned in June 2019. Tom Sisk replaced him. The school board bought out Sisk's contract in 2020 when a revelation came that Sisk never received a PhD from an accredited institution even though he presented himself as having that credential. Annette Tudor became the interim superintendent. Tennessee High School
Tennessee High School is a public high school located in Bristol, Tennessee, operated as part of the Bristol Tennessee City Schools school district. The high school serves almost all of the Bristol city limits. History The first official Tennessee High School opened in 1916 on Alabama Street. The first part of the current campus was built in 1939. The Bristol Municipal Stadium, also known as the Stone Castle, hosts football and soccer games and was built in 1936 as part of the New Deal. Viking Hall, which opened in 1981, is Bristol Tennessee's civic center and the location of Tennessee High basketball games. According to legend, the school building is haunted.
