Bristol Tennessee City Schools
Bristol Tennessee City Schools is a school district headquartered in Bristol, Tennessee. It includes almost all of the city limits of Bristol. Gary Lilly served as superintendent from 2009, until he resigned in June 2019. Tom Sisk replaced him. The school board bought out Sisk's contract in 2020 when a revelation came that Sisk never received a PhD from an accredited institution even though he presented himself as having that credential. Annette Tudor became the interim superintendent. Bristol is a city in the State of Tennessee. Located in Sullivan County, its population was 26,702 at the 2010 census. It is the twin city of Bristol, Virginia, which lies directly across the state line between Tennessee and Virginia. The boundary between the two cities is also the state line, which runs along State Street in their common downtown district. Bristol is a principal city of the Kingsport−Bristol−Bristol, TN- VA metropolitan statistical area, which is a component of the Johnson City−Kingsport−Bristol, TN-VA combined statistical area − commonly known as the " Tri-Cities" region. WJHL-TV (channel 11) is a television station licensed to Johnson City, Tennessee, United States, serving the Tri-Cities area as an affiliate of CBS and ABC. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group, and maintains studios on East Main Street in downtown Johnson City; its transmitter is located on Holston Mountain in the Cherokee National Forest. History WJHL-TV began broadcasting on October 26, 1953. It was owned by Hanes Lancaster, Sr. his son Hanes, Jr. and Jesse W. "Jay" Birdwell along with WJHL radio (910 AM, now WJCW; and FM 101.5, now WQUT). The call letters stood for John H. Lancaster, Hanes, Sr.'s father and Hanes, Jr.'s grandfather, who had founded the AM station in 1938. WCYB-TV (channel 5) is a television station licensed to Bristol, Virginia, United States, serving the Tri-Cities area as an affiliate of NBC and The CW. It is one of two commercial television stations in the market that are licensed in Virginia (alongside religious station WLFG, channel 68, in Grundy). WCYB-TV is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which also provides certain services to Greeneville, Tennessee–licensed Fox affiliate WEMT (channel 39) under a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Cunningham Broadcasting. Tennessee High School
Tennessee High School is a public high school located in Bristol, Tennessee, operated as part of the Bristol Tennessee City Schools school district. The high school serves almost all of the Bristol city limits. History The first official Tennessee High School opened in 1916 on Alabama Street. The first part of the current campus was built in 1939. The Bristol Municipal Stadium, also known as the Stone Castle, hosts football and soccer games and was built in 1936 as part of the New Deal. Viking Hall, which opened in 1981, is Bristol Tennessee's civic center and the location of Tennessee High basketball games. According to legend, the school building is haunted.
