Bristol Revunions
Bristol Revunions, or more commonly Revunions, is a sketch comedy society formed by students at the University of Bristol. Founded in the early 1950s, the group has produced many well-known alumni and continues to write and perform sketch material both within Bristol and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. History The earliest reference to Revunions dates back to 2 July 1953, although it is likely that the society existed before this date, making it the oldest performing arts society within the University of Bristol. Originally a dramatic society that performed a comedy revue on an annual basis, Revunions moved closer to its present-day status as a sketch comedy society within its first thirty years of existence. This progress was abruptly halted in the mid-1980s when the group faced bankruptcy, following the speculative disappearance of its treasurer to Paraguay along with the society's funds. Cambridge Footlights
Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club, commonly referred to simply as the Footlights, is an amateur theatrical club in Cambridge, England, founded in 1883 and run by the students of Cambridge University. History Footlights' inaugural performance took place in June 1883. For some months before the name "Footlights" was chosen, the group had performed to local audiences in the Cambridge area (once, with a cricket match included, at the "pauper lunatic asylum"). They wished to go wider than the University Amateur Dramatic Club (ADC), founded in 1855, with its membership drawn largely from Trinity College, and its theatre seating only 100. They were to perform every May Week at the Theatre Royal, Barnwell, Cambridge, the shows soon open to the public. Norman Lloyd-Edwards
Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards (born 13 June 1933) served as the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan from 1990 to 2008. Early life Lloyd-Edwards comes from Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, and was educated at Monmouth School for Boys, Quakers Yard Grammar School and University of Bristol. Career A solicitor and notary public, was a senior partner and consultant with Cartwrights, Adams & Black in Cardiff. He was president of Cardiff Law Society from 1995 to 1996. Joining RNVR in 1952, he spent his National Service in the Royal Navy from 1958 to 1960. Following this, he joined the South Wales Division of the Royal Naval Reserve. Christopher Langham (born 14 April 1949) is an English writer, actor, and comedian. He is known for playing the cabinet minister Hugh Abbot in the BBC sitcom ''The Thick of It'', and as presenter Roy Mallard in '' People Like Us'', first on BBC Radio 4 and later on its transfer to television on BBC Two, where Mallard is almost entirely an unseen character.
