Brisaspor
Brisaspor is a Turkish professional road bicycle racing team based in Kocaeli, and sponsored by the local Brisa Bridgestone Sabancı Lastik company of Turkish Sabancı Group, which produces and distributes Bridgestone tires from Japan. The cycling team is part of the Brisaspor Club. Preparations to form a cycling team goes back to 1978, when a summer camp was opened to build infrastructure. The team was officially established in 1982 with the twelve sportspeople from the summer camp as Lassaspor, which was sponsored by the Turkish Lassa company that is the main facility for the production of both tire brands. Already in 1983, the team became Turkish champion. In 1999, Brisaspor began to participate at competitions of international level. It is the first champion of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey ( tr, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Bisiklet Turu) is a professional road bicycle racing stage race held annually in Turkey since 1963. In 2005 the race became part of the UCI Europe Tour, rated as a 2.2 event, before being upgraded to 2.1 in 2008, and then to 2.HC for the 2010 edition. Bilal Akgül
Bilal Akgül (born 13 October 1982 in Adana) is a Turkish professional road cyclist and mountain biker riding for team Brisaspor. He is the first ever Turkish Olympian cyclist participating at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He became 2005 Turkish mountain biking champion in cross-country at Ankara. The next year, he won the national champion title in marathon mountain bike race at Çanakkale and the road race. In the 2007 season, Akgül became national mountain biking champion in cross-country and in marathon. He took part at the cross-country event of 2008 Summer Olympics without having finished.
