''Brigada Specială de Intervenție a Jandarmeriei'' (Gendarmerie Special Intervention Brigade, BSIJ) is a special operations force belonging to the Gendarmerie (Romania), Romanian Gendarmerie. The unit carries the name "Vlad Țepeș" after the legendary Wallachian ruler, Vlad III the Impaler, Vlad the Impaler. History After the Romanian Revolution, fall of the communist regime in December 1989, two units were created by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Romania), Ministry of Internal Affairs with the task of ensuring public order. One was subordinated to the Romanian Police, while the other was subordinated to the Romanian Gendarmerie.
