Rear Admiral Sir Brian Stewart Murray, (26 December 1921 – 4 June 1991) was a senior officer in the Royal Australian Navy and the 22nd Governor of Victoria, serving from March 1982 until October 1985. Governor of Victoria At the time of his appointment as governor, Murray was a retired Royal Australian Navy admiral married to a former nun. He was nominated by the Liberal Premier Lindsay Thompson. Labor Premier John Cain demanded his resignation in 1985 after Murray accepted a free trip to the United States with his wife from Continental Airlines. They retired to the Doonkuna Estate vineyard at Murrumbateman, outside of Canberra. During Murray's term of office, a Labor government was elected in Victoria for the first time since 1955. Brian Murray (born 1963/4) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for clubs in Donegal, Dublin and Kildare, as well as for the Donegal county team. He is from Ballyshannon. In April 1980, he scored a goal at Croke Park as his secondary school De La Salle College Ballyshannon, defeated Leinster champions St Mary's CBS, Portlaoise, by 2–10 to 1–6 to win the All-Ireland Colleges B title. In November 1988, Pat Spillane passed the ball to Murray; Murray promptly scored a goal to defeat The Kingdom in their own county. Murray played against Armagh and scored a point in the 1990 Ulster final, won by Donegal. He was a member of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning team. He played in midfield and started in midfield in the 1992 All-Ireland Final as Donegal defeated Dublin by a scoreline of 0–18 to 0–14. Brian Murray (born 6 September 1984 in Patrickswell, County Limerick) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Patrickswell and was a member of the Limerick senior inter-county team from 2006 until 2009. Playing career Club Murray plays his club hurling with the famous Patrickswell club just outside Limerick city. He was born into a family that had a strong association with hurling. His father, Terence Murray, was also a member of the Patrickswell club and refereed the 1987 and 1993 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship finals between Galway and Kilkenny. After enjoying little success as minor or under-21 levels he subsequently joined the club's senior team. After beginning as an outfield player Murray was later chosen as goalkeeper on the team and has remained in that position since 2005. Brian R. Murray is an Irish lawyer who is a judge of the Supreme Court. He was a judge of the Court of Appeal between November 2019 and February 2022. He worked as a barrister practicing in public and commercial law prior to becoming a judge. Early life Murray received a BA degree from Trinity College Dublin and completed an LLM at the University of Cambridge. He won the Irish Times Debate in 1984 for the College Historical Society. He subsequently attended the King's Inns. He was called to the Bar in 1989 and became a senior counsel in 2002. Legal career Murray practised in the areas of constitutional and commercial law.
