Brian Dunning (flautist)
Brian Dunning (21 December 1951 – 10 February 2022) was an Irish flautist and composer, largely known for being a member of the Celtic band Nightnoise. He had both Celtic and jazz influences early on. He studied jazz and classical music, and was a student of James Galway. He studied at the Berklee College of Music in 1977. Dunning played the flute and panpipe in Puck Fair, a primarily instrumental "Irish jazz" group formed in New York in 1984 that played traditional Irish songs and original compositions. Windhorse (film)
Windhorse is an American film from 1998, directed and produced by Paul Wagner, co-directed by Thupten Tsering and co-produced with Julia Elliott. The leading roles were played by Dadon, Jampa Kalsang Tamang and Richard Chang. Shot in Tibet and Nepal in 1996, the film is notable for being the first commercially released film shot on digital cameras - a prototype of the digital-beta Sony DVW-700WS and the prosumer Sony DCE-VX1000. The offline editing (Avid) and the online post and color work (Roland House / da Vinci) were also all digital. The film, transferred to 35mm negative for theatrical release, won Best U.S. Independnent Film at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in March 1998, also co-winning the Best Director award. ''The Outcasts'', written and directed by Robert Wynne-Simmons and starring Mary Ryan and Mick Lally, is an Irish film completed in 1982 and broadcast in 1984 as part of UK's Channel 4 Film on Four series. It was the first Irish feature film in 50 years, and as such started the revival of the Irish Film industry. Description This 95-minute feature film was written and directed in 1982 by Robert Wynne-Simmons, starring Mary Ryan as Maura and Mick Lally as Scarf Michael. Nightnoise
Nightnoise was a music ensemble active from 1984 to 1997. Their original blend of Irish traditional music, Celtic music, jazz, and classical chamber music inspired a generation of Irish musicians. They released seven albums on the Windham Hill label. Origins The origins of Nightnoise can be traced to the Bothy Band (disbanded in 1979), who made a name in Ireland and internationally with a lively fiddle-based sound that brought Irish music into the mainstream. Jeff Johnson (born 1956) is a recording artist, composer and producer who has released numerous solo and collaborative recordings.
