Brendan Nestor
Thomas Brendan Nestor (29 April 1911 – 8 February 1981) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at club level with Dunmore MacHales and Erin's Hope and at inter-county level with the Galway senior football team. He usually lined out as a forward. Playing career Nestor began his playing career with the Dunmore MacHales club. As a student at St Patrick's College, he also lined out with the Erin's Hope club and won a Dublin SFC title in 1932. Nestor had, by this stage, made an impression on the inter-county scene as a member of the Galway junior football team that won the All-Ireland Junior Championship title in 1931. He was promoted to the senior team and won All-Ireland Championship medals in 1934 and 1938. Nestor's other honours with Galway include five Connacht Championship medals and a National Football League title. He was also the first player from Connacht to win four Railway Cup medals. Dunmore MacHales GAC
Dunmore MacHales GAA ( ga, CLG Dún Mhór Mhic Eil) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dunmore, County Galway, Ireland. The club is a member of Galway GAA. Teams at underage and Intermediate level play in the Galway League and Championships. Though the McHales are the first team to have won the Galway Senior Championship in 1889 the club has not won the Frank Fox cup in almost four decades, last winning the championship in 1983. History They were the first team to win the Galway Senior Football Championship in 1889 and have had many victories in the competition ever since although their last senior county title was won in 1983. They last appeared in the final in 1997. They are fourth in the all-time list of most victories. They had two great decades, the first coming from 1900 to 1912, and the 1960s when they won five of the ten championships. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. The 1966 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 80th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 1 May 1966 and ended on 25 September 1966. Galway entered the championship as the defending champions in search of a third successive championship title. On 25 September 1966, Galway won the championship following a 1-10 to 0-7 defeat of Meath in the All-Ireland final. The 1965 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 79th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The 1964 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 78th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 26 April 1964 and ended on 27 September 1964. Dublin entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Meath in the Leinster final. It was Galway's second consecutive final, having lost to Dublin in the previous year's decider. The Tribesmen won their 5th All-Ireland title, beating Kerry by 5 points in the final, 0-15 to 0-10. The Connacht Junior Football Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Gaelic football played in the province of Connacht in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Connacht Council. The competition began in 1906, with Mayo winning during the inaugural year. 1939–40 National Football League (Ireland)
The 1939–40 National Football League was the 13th staging of the National Football League (Ireland), National Football League, an annual Gaelic football tournament for the Gaelic Athletic Association county teams of Ireland. After winning six NFL titles in a row, Mayo senior football team, Mayo did not play in the league this season, on the grounds that petrol rationing (due to Emergency (Ireland), The Emergency / Second World War) would make playing in the NFL prohibitively expensive.
